Haha yea man. I wanted to like this film so bad. Even when I wasn't a fan of the designs or soundtrack choices (a rap remix of "I Got the Power" haha) I was hoping that overall I would like it. Especially with the Boom Comics series doing some more developed MMPR stories that are really good and manage to keep the same tone as the original; I knew that this sort of thing was possible to pull off. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

The plot hole that has me really scratching my head was:
How did they manage to form the Megazord? Literally all that happens is the individual zords fall into a crater and the Megazord simply emerges from it, and the rangers seem just as dumfounded as me as to how it happened. Did the rangers activate it somehow or was it an automatic thing? Shouldn't this feature have come up in their training somewhere? Rita seems strangely surprised too. If she were once a power ranger shouldn't she be fully aware that the zords have this capability?

Yeah, they definitely passed on what could have been a neat opportunity to see them come together. I kind of viewed it as the
Zeo Crystal
catalyzing things. I know it didn't, but still.

Fatter than before!
GO ZEO!

How could I have forgotten to mention that the Krispy Kreme Donuts franchise it literally critical to the plot.:lol

I liked when Billy revealed the 'secret' to Rita. :lol

Well worth it

Has anyone had the donuts yet?

They look horrible, but I want one just to say I tried it. I mean, I'd be a disgrace if I didn't. :lol

Shadow, are you going the TPB collections route for the comics or the individual issues route?

I'm going TPB, but the wait sucks. I'm thinking of going digital.

Actually what's ironic is that this led into one of the few parts of the movie that actually worked for me.
When they each realize that they are controlling a different zord limb and Jason is forced to coordinate their fighting and how they all move together.

It played into the theme of them having to become harmonious as a team and felt like it built on the original lore of the show. I always wondered what they were all actually doing in that Megazord cockpit, lol.
Plus it injected a little humanity into a scene that could have easily been a very Transformers-esque "too coordinated" robot fight.

A little bit of both actually. I started with the collections but then got impatient and wanted to read more so I ended up just buying all the issues, haha.

A member on here actually was selling his complete collection last week and I picked it up for a little under $50.

That's actually a great observation and never thought about it like that before. I didn't like the set-up they used in the movie at first, but in hindsight, it's really growing on me and maybe even more so when you point it out like that.

As for the show, no **** clue what they were all doing in there. :lol You know some of them literally had no job controlling the Megazord. Just mooching a ride. :lol

Granted theres also no reason why they couldn't have done the same exact thing, but while in a shared megazord cockpit.

To be honest I kind of would have preffered that too. :lol

I didn't grow up with Power Rangers. I mean, I did, but I never watched them. Kind of surprised, I didn't, honestly, considering the fact that I'm a '90s kid and the super hero thing was right up my alley, but, for whatever reason, maybe it was that I was too obsessed with Batman and the like, I never got around to watching them. Suffice it to say, my buddy did, and he's a huge fan, so, at his behest, I figured, "what the hell, at least we'll get to hang out." Suffice it to say, I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. I have enough knowledge of the property that I could see it was a movie that respected its source material, but it was also very approachable, and I thought it was entertaining as hell. I don't think I could go back and become a fan of the originals; unfortunately, I think I might have past the point of no return, in terms of maturity, and with no nostalgia goggles to view it through, I can imagine it'd be quite painful, but I'd go as far as to say that this has made me a fan of the property, in the sense that I'm eager to see more.

Billy was probably my favorite of the bunch, but it had a solid cast, and I dug the Zordon stuff. I thought they struck a really nice balance, in terms of staying true to the show and not being super cheesy about it. Also? This movie, right here, is how diversity is done. This and Rogue One are what I believe Hollywood should strive for, in terms of representation. A lot of people would probably roll their eyes at a black kid on the autism spectrum being a power ranger, but the way they handled his characterization, and the way they handled Trini's sexuality. It was totally natural, and the character development, all around in this movie, far exceeded what I had anticipated going in.

All in all, this movie was well worth the price of admission and I can honestly say I enjoyed the hell out of it. I definitely want to see more from this franchise, and I hope this does well, because it deserves to.

I thought it had something to do with the crystals that were in the crater with them.

I went in with low expectations but I actually enjoyed it. The one thing that has me scratching my head is something Billy repeated a few times throughout the movie. With all the drama surrounding the original blue ranger's sexuality, I found it a little strange that they made Billy the butt of the joke - almost literally - with the "Billy Crams-Tons-of-Stuff-Up-His-Butt" joke. It may be a totally harmless joke but I wouldn't be surprised if David Yost found it a little insensitive.

I don't think they'd intentionally do that, and I wasn't aware of the original blue ranger, but it did intrigue me and I came across this article. It seems like he has nothing but good things to say about the film and the new Billy:

Am I the only one who loved the Rita twist in her origin ? I thought it was pretty clever and raised the stakes between her and Zordon even more.

And yeah, this movie ended up being much better than I thought it would be. Just hope that Jason remains the leader in the sequels.
