ROTJ hands down no doubt about it.

ESB is a great movie on its own merits but as the capstone to the Star Wars saga I have to vote ROTJ.

Empire-

Empire had the better ending. Han gets frozen in carbonite and taken away by Boba Fett. Luke gets his hand cut off and finds out that Vader is his father. It ends on such a downer and that's all life is, a serious of downers.

All ROTJ had was a bunch of muppets.

ROTJ for me, ESB is a good film, but in all my years of Star Wars discussion, I've never understood people's love for it, but we're all unique so that's the fun of these polls, you get to hear people's thought processes and learn more about their tastes and passions for this stuff.

Empire is one of the rare examples in which the sequel proves to be a better film than the original (arguably alongside Godfather II). The characters still felt fresh, in fact they had much more life to them, and incredible depth. The galaxy began to really open up in Empire, we were taken to frozen planets, galactic swamps, asteroid fields, cloud embraced cities and more. We saw more creatures, and more complexity to the special effects. But best of all, we felt Star Wars for the first time; both the Empire and the Rebellion went through their own set of emotive turbulence.

Give it to ESB!

With all due respect, I am afraid I can't vote in this final poll. Neither of these films will ever be considered my favorite Star Wars film, so it makes no sense to give either of them a vote.

I voted for empire as a whole.


Jedi still has the best scene in Star Wars history IMO. The entire Luke/Vader/Emperor scene was AWESOME.

I voted Empire. It just has a certain feel to it, to me it's one of the best friendship movies. The characters grew from strangers in ANH to friends that would risk everything to help each other out.

ROTJ had too many goofy moments and the plot was kinda lame. another death star? oh wow!!

Though Empire is pretty much a perfect film...

Jabba + speeder bike chase + Death Star II assault + Final Duel + closure + nostalgia + Luke realizing he was hot for his sister = 1 vote for Jedi.

And you cannot dismiss the greatness that is Nien Numb.

Empire hands down is the best. Jedi is a great film but it does have its weak points. Ewok celebration is a pretty weak ending to the saga.

Seconded. To me, most of the second half of ESB and parts of ROTJ were fast-forward-worthy.

I love Jedi, its what I got hooked with, but Empire is by far the stronger film.
