Just got back from SLCC (or SLCCC as some are calling it to avoid confusion with a local community college with the same initials)!
Wow! I went in with very low expectations. Having gone to SDCC every year since 2006, I know what a BIG con is like. I know initially they were hoping/expecting around 30,000 people to show up. We got 70,000+ to show up. Its apparently the largest opening of a comic con yet!
They are already starting to plan big for future years, even some rumblings starting of stealing away SDCC from San Diego eventually if we can get a big enough convention center built. Other than the facility, the area is already ready for a big show - we hosted the Olympics back in 2002 after all. The support and foundation is all here we just lack the facility to hold an event that big. The Salt Palace (the convention center) was already full as it was for THIS year. They even moved it from a smaller Expo a few weeks ago based on pre-sales and boy was that a great move! The Expo Center would have been far too small!
Definitely fun! Expect great things to come in future years! I defiantly expect SLCC to rival NYCC in just a few years!
