Just got this bad boy - scored one on ebay for 85 bucks shipped. i actually don't mind the factory weathering - doesnt look as bad as i feared. the non-weathering paint apps are much better than the first stormtrooper. still debating if i want to go through the long task of sanding (to get rid of mold lines and weathering), repaint and re-weather. i did the whole sand and armor repaint on the first stormie but may just keep sandie as-is - though the mold lines on its armor do bug me......

Still hunting for my first Sandtrooper - which certainly needs to be reworked.
Realistic weathering is IMO the most difficult part in modelling. Better no weathering then unrealistic weathering.
I would prefere if they would ship the Sanddrooper without any weathering and leave it up to the customer to put on weathering or not.

You are assuming all customers don't like the stock weathering. I think it's just fine. Have a good time with your modifications and post pictures when you are done.:chew

I don't think his post is assuming that everyone wants clean troopers. Sounds like he was speaking for himself to me.

But he speaks for me as well. To me, it is simple common sense to ship them clean. If for no other reason, then at least because many troopers with identical weathering detracts from realism...once again...to me.

Umpteen pages ago, Flosi posted a screen shot of the Sandtroopers. Comparing the screenshot he posted with my Sandtrooper, the weathering looks fine to me. :dunno

Right those who know me no I am not a massive fan of the SS stormies... BUT..... With a little work... Chuff love em......

I can't seem to get the chest pieces on my Sandies and Stormies to look like that, I guess I'll have to be much more extreme when I heat and bend them...

Yup, don't be afraid to really heat the water and let it sit for a while. It will open slightly after it cools, slightly.
