I was so consumed last night from opening and setting up Sauron that I didn't visit the boards here. Great shots from Josh and everyone else.

#333 has arrived in NJ.

I can't say enough how fantastic I think Sauron came out. He's incredible and HUUUUUGE!!! I'll post a few pics later on tonight.

I did have a couple problems with mine. First, that diamond that Custo and a couple others had broken off was also broken off on mine. Second, the elf sword blade was cracked in half on the blade part. I was considering contacting Sideshow about both of these then I just said screw it as they were both easy fixes with some crazy glue and I'd never know it was broken if I hadn't glued it myself. Can't even tell now. Fixed.

I have noticed that the lava glow effect is different on everyone's statues and that's to be expected. Mine happens to be one where the lava reflection isn't as pronounced on his helmet spikes as say Fremen's or Josh's is. It's slightly more subdued and toned down which like what Danstangoe has and it is fine by me. Either version I would get is fine by me as I like both looks.

The only other thing I'll say is that I may (or may not) in the future attempt some drybrushing or washes of some black to get parts of his armor to be a more weathered look. Mainly near the top of his helmet and spikes. Like others have said, it looks a little too new. Again I may or may not do it. We'll see.

Outside of that? PERFECTION! Such a presence and the centerpiece of my collection. Did I mention HE'S HUGE!!!! Even my Big Chap Alien maquette looks small compared to him :lol

I'm really think about repainting him more and more

Got a call from SS returns dept. concerning my broken base. Actually I am quite pleased on how they are handling the situation. As I defiantly don't want to return this masterpiece, SS gave some promising options.

They are willing to:

1. return the figure for full refund.

2. let me keep the figure and exchange the base for a new one. (he did warn me that with how fragile the base is, I may be going in circles if the new base arrives broken. He also stated extra care would be taken packing it, but we all know how shipping companies are.)

3. I could keep as is and SS would issue me a partial refund back to my credit card. (I imagine the amount would be different case by case, but for me they offered $90)

4. I could keep the figure as is and SS would issue me a credit towards a current pre ordered item, or credit towards a new purchase. (for me they offered $100 credit.)

I have till the 2nd of Oct. to decide, but I'm leaning on the credit. (I notice that many are gluing theirs.)

I know some of you are having issues with damage, so hopefully this comparison helps.:wink1:

Is this a normal response from SS on damaged items? This is the first time I've had an issue.

Pretty solid options. If the helm is an easy fix and wouldn't bother you I'd just go with either credit option. If I had something on order I might even go that route.

Surprised that helm is showing up broke to be honest since it appears to be made out of a material other than polystone.

Thanks for the input Josh. I'm surprised as well on where the damaged occurred considering how the base is packed, and seemingly no pressure points on the helm.

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be too much pressure on that part. Its one of the best packed pieces I've seen considering all the breaking points.

Ive started my repaint. I painted the right shoulder, elbow and knee part. Used silver leaf then light black dry brushing till satisfied. I will gold leaf his ring eventually too. Ive stopped now to compare new paint job to old. I still have no Internet and am using my phone but I will post photos as soon as I possibly can to show the comparison.

Wow, wish I had the guts and skill to do this. ESP the ring. I can not wait to see pics.

Gutsy for sure. I wouldn't try it due to lack of skill and I don't think the paint job really needs it. Will be curious to see how it comes out though.

Best of luck with the repaint Adolfo :wave

Really looking forward to seeing the result, as if my Sauron PF arrives very silvery, I may have a go at some darkening and silver drybrushing on mine too.

It's hard to tell just how light he is from the pics I have seen, as they vary so much – depending on the light conditions.

He looks nice and dark is some and very silvery in others.

I'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

I just finished his helm. I don't mind the silvery, but just make it uniform. My statue starts out at his feet with a reddish coppery tone to a brown tone then starts to turn silver at his torso area with blotches of orange, copper etc. this will take me a few days. I silver leafed painted his head and my friend thought his head was Aluminum or stainless when he saw it. After the black dry brushing tones it down some he looks a little more metal like with the contrasting silver/ black wash. Man I really want to buy another Sauron just to keep for my son

Lighting is key on this piece as I have been saying for the longest time with pieces involving paint jobs that is supposed reflect surface light or in this case lava

Looking at my SSW 1/4 helm and it's basically a black helm with metallic silver highlights. The vast majority of the helm is for real black. I will paint the mace a very slightly darker color. I have to be very careful with the cloth on Sauron. I'd hate to mess it up
