Whew!
Made it thru a whole week without a funeral or family tragedy.
Took my little guy to NYCC today as part of his birthday gift and we had a blast!
He won something from Intel called a Boxey Box that turns your TV into an internet entertainment center. It isn't even released yet! Sounds cool and seems to do hundreds of things. He got his photo taken with some superhero types, a Halo guy and a couple of predators! Real Cool!
Me? Well I met some friends that were at their booths. Joe Ahearn, co-owner of Captain Action was there and I damn near kissed him when I saw the protype display for the new 1:6 Captain Action figure that will be available, via mass market like TRU next fall in time for the Christmas season. AND, to make that only better, they have partnered up with none other than MARVEL COMICS! Thats right Cap will be able to transform into Spidey once again. But he'll also get to don the personas of Thor and Iron Man among others this time around. I was mega stoked.
Then I happened across the Executive Replicas booth. Despite a lot of stuff being canceled from Amok Time and such, there is still much coolness forthcoming. I'll try and get the pix I took downloaded and posted in the next few days.
Zica Toys were also there. They are the ones making the new Buck Rogers in the 25th Century figures of Buck, Kane, Tigerman, Draconian Guard and Hawk. Very cool looking figures. the attention to detail is off the scale but.... the scale is the only problem for me. Zica are Mego sized enthusiasts. So, these are all 1:8 scale. I tried to talk them into upping their scale of choice, but I don't think I was enough to sway them . Very nice guys though. They even suggested buying their figures and using Hydrospan to make the 1:6 versions I wanted.
And my day only got better. I met Leo Leibelman and Mark Texeira. Two of the many artists contributing to the Conspiracy novel. Also two of the nicest guys I've met in a long time. Mark didn't bring any POTA work with him unfortunately but Leo? I was looking at his book of prints because he had a large amount of Marvel heroes stuff displayed. Then I saw in the back of the book his art from Conspiracy. We talked for a good while. Turns out that each artist on the book was assigned what they would do. He hopes to do more if there is a second book and to hopefully get to do some action sequences. So, needless to say I came home with that print. But, as we're talking, and he mentions that not a lot of POTA fans seem to be around the con, and that, from what we were talking about, he could tell I was a real fan, he pulls a sweet surprise on me. He offers me his original sketch drafts for his piece. I was absolutely floored. I was only able to get one and regretted having to pass on te other. Regardless I know have a one of a kind piece of POTA Conspiracy art in my collection.
So all I have to do now is mail out a few items to the patient folks waiting. Sorry, I couldn't get to the P.O. yesterday in time.
Then its on to trying to get some much overdue painting underway.
Ok, I'm beat. On my feet since 5 am.
Until tomorrow fellow simians!
