Thanks Kfog, The two Rebs that Angel did for me are my favorite. They photograph very well. I'm glad you think I'm on the right track. :yess:

Jessica, great job on Caesar, I can't wait to see him all made up. :clap

You've come a long way, baby!

Whew!
Made it thru a whole week without a funeral or family tragedy.
Took my little guy to NYCC today as part of his birthday gift and we had a blast!
He won something from Intel called a Boxey Box that turns your TV into an internet entertainment center. It isn't even released yet! Sounds cool and seems to do hundreds of things. He got his photo taken with some superhero types, a Halo guy and a couple of predators! Real Cool!
Me? Well I met some friends that were at their booths. Joe Ahearn, co-owner of Captain Action was there and I damn near kissed him when I saw the protype display for the new 1:6 Captain Action figure that will be available, via mass market like TRU next fall in time for the Christmas season. AND, to make that only better, they have partnered up with none other than MARVEL COMICS! Thats right Cap will be able to transform into Spidey once again. But he'll also get to don the personas of Thor and Iron Man among others this time around. I was mega stoked.
Then I happened across the Executive Replicas booth. Despite a lot of stuff being canceled from Amok Time and such, there is still much coolness forthcoming. I'll try and get the pix I took downloaded and posted in the next few days.
Zica Toys were also there. They are the ones making the new Buck Rogers in the 25th Century figures of Buck, Kane, Tigerman, Draconian Guard and Hawk. Very cool looking figures. the attention to detail is off the scale but.... the scale is the only problem for me. Zica are Mego sized enthusiasts. So, these are all 1:8 scale. I tried to talk them into upping their scale of choice, but I don't think I was enough to sway them . Very nice guys though. They even suggested buying their figures and using Hydrospan to make the 1:6 versions I wanted.
And my day only got better. I met Leo Leibelman and Mark Texeira. Two of the many artists contributing to the Conspiracy novel. Also two of the nicest guys I've met in a long time. Mark didn't bring any POTA work with him unfortunately but Leo? I was looking at his book of prints because he had a large amount of Marvel heroes stuff displayed. Then I saw in the back of the book his art from Conspiracy. We talked for a good while. Turns out that each artist on the book was assigned what they would do. He hopes to do more if there is a second book and to hopefully get to do some action sequences. So, needless to say I came home with that print. But, as we're talking, and he mentions that not a lot of POTA fans seem to be around the con, and that, from what we were talking about, he could tell I was a real fan, he pulls a sweet surprise on me. He offers me his original sketch drafts for his piece. I was absolutely floored. I was only able to get one and regretted having to pass on te other. Regardless I know have a one of a kind piece of POTA Conspiracy art in my collection.
So all I have to do now is mail out a few items to the patient folks waiting. Sorry, I couldn't get to the P.O. yesterday in time.
Then its on to trying to get some much overdue painting underway.
Ok, I'm beat. On my feet since 5 am.
Until tomorrow fellow simians!

Hey IM! Glad to hear you had a GREAT time. Did you meet up with Rich Handley? I wonder if he was only there on Saturday...?

So awesome about your Conspiracy art stuff! Please post photos of that, too! I can't wait for that book to come out. It was originally supposed to be ready by October, but then you know how real life gets in the way of things....

Zica Toys had their artists sculpt the Buck Rogers in 1:6 scale and they had them shrink it down to size, FYI.

I'm baking Burke's head right now. As soon as it cools off I'm going to paint it and see how it looks.

I have my Caesar in hand. He came in the mail yesterday, but I was out and about...went to see the Blue Angels fly over the SF Bay, so there was no time for that. He looks really wonderful!! Been sculpting again but there was a swimming party we had to go to smack dab in the middle of the day.

Here's what I am working on at the moment, another character from Star Wars

DP I am still waiting for my mold/cast material to be delivered. I think it should be here in a few days. I want to get the other tribunal orangutans casted so I can see how they paint up.

Jess would you please stop coming up with these cool heads. Not only is it Apes but the Star Wars universe you are teasing me with. Is there no ends to your talent ?

He was trying to quit smoking. ;) He even hid his lighter.

:)

He looks really great in that uniform. Makes me wish I ordered a regular gorilla instead of the Captain! Hmm...going to have to sculpt that Captain then! :monkey1

I was really surprised that Julius painted up really easily. He practically paints himself. The only hard thing to paint are the eyeballs.

On snap! Look what I found! Perfect orangutan hair hiding in Ethan's stuffed horse. I've got enough to hair up three orangutans....maybe even 4 if I plan it correctly (you know...since I may as well resculpt Dr. Z at this point)... I'm going to see how the orangutans will hair up. I'll do a paint up of just the cast with the sculpted hair...and then I'll cast just the faces so that I can hair that up. Oh joy!! I've got a jacket in the perfect orange-utan that I will cut up for the tribunal characters. Working on apes just makes me so happy.

That is just aweome DP!

Jessica - that's the best gorilla sculpt ever made if you ask me... and that includes Sideshow and Hot Toys. :yess:

OMG I'm so happy and excited to hear that. :hi5: That really makes my day.

Still working on that damned Burke. His head is too big. I'm going to sand it down and start his face over.

I forgot to say that Dylan was not going to participate in Halloween this year because he feels that he's too old to get all dressed up. The other day in the car he was wondering if it would be OK to wear his pullover gorilla mask and just wear regular clothing. I said of course, that would look super cool. He wanted to know if he should black out his eyes. I told him it would just make it really perfect, so I don't see the brown of his skin, and would make it more "real." But I didn't really push it. So...I'm just holding my breath and hoping that he will have me black out his eyes on that day. I'll be at school anyway, volunteering for Ashton's Halloween party (but I won't get aped up). It's just too physically taxing to be in that ape outfit for only a few hours. It's got to be more than 12 hours in makeup or the 3 hours putting it on is just not worth it for my efforts.

Hi Jess! That would look great on your Honorius! I also sent you a PM!:wave

I didn't see Handley and neither Leo or Mark mentioned his being there.
I'll post pix as soon as I can. I"ll have to try and take a decent one of the sketch art. There was also an online picture of Leo at SDCC 09 with an Ursus painting behind him. I don't think it was his but I'd sure like to see the whole thing.

Thats interesting about the Zica heads. I spoke with their guys for quite a bit and while ZI did try and convince them to even just sell 1:6 versions of the sculpts to allow folks like me to customize, they never mentioned that they actually had started out that way.

I was out all day again today but will mail your cleavers out tomorrow Angel.
And Jess, I'll be sending you enough heads to keep you busy shortly as well.

IM--if you have a spare female head, I would like to borrow it. I just need the shape of the eyes, so I can make a quick mold and cast and send it back unharmed.

Darn it. Ethan found his horse I forgot on the table. He has claimed it back. :gah: I submitted a best offer bid for the same horse on Feebay. If it doesn't work out, I'm going to give Ethan time to forget about this horse...and when that happens...goodbye horsie, hello tribunal.

Got the horse last night on Feebay. Just waiting for delivery. Hopefully the mold/cast materials will come soon. I really am curious about how the orangutans will hair up. I'm also going to hair up my Link sculpt, which I have to re-do because it's mongo-headed.

I am going to spray a Cornelius outfit with black plasti-dip today. I tested out a swatch of fabric yesterday and it came out ok. As soon as it's dry, I'm going to put it on Caesar and take some photos in natural light so you can see how spectacular he is. He's going to look fabulous.

Wow Jessica, your sculpt looks GREAT!!! Nice job, he would look great with some SS Gorillas around him.
