I have the three Hot Toys apes and love them. I also have Sideshow's Gorilla and Cornelius. Personally I don't think the SS Gorilla has any place alongside his HT counterparts. Cornelius, on the other hand, looks fine with them. I would think that Zira would also be good, but not Zaius.

Exactly Kuat...I am thinking about getting HT Ursus and SS Cornelius and Zira...maybe later on the Captain Gorilla...don´t know but those gorillas bring me back to my childhood when I got so scared by seen them rising their rifles upon the sunset...it's a fear that I love it... so strange!!

So Ironman, let's recap:

Hot Toys has only released three 12" figures? Gorilla Soldier, Gorilla Captain and Ursus?

The rest are released by Sideshow, ok?...are these versions good enough to mix with the HT figures?

That, again, is a matter of personal choice.

The Hot Toys' offerings are the most accurate in terms of uniform color, accessories, etc....

Sideshow's are great for what they were - the only versions available at the time. While I find the color of the gorilla uniforms "off" I also temd to view them as a fine version for military/law type gorillas. Sideshow also offers the only available 1:6 chimps and orangutans. I have seen customs where the Sideshow versions were "haired" and they have comeout very well done. See DP's version a few posts earlier. I am working on fine tuning a way to hair them up en masse.

All that being said, it is in the end up to YOU whether you mind having molded hair and real hair apes in your collection.
For me? I can't get enough. I have Hot Toys, Sideshow, Hasbro, ApeJoe, customs....

There is definitely something indescribably cool about those original gorillas. Something that Tim Burton just couldn't better.

You're right, Ironman, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

The Sideshow Gorilla was the first figure that I bought. Then I convinced myself to get all the HTs for nostalgia sake, and they relegate the SS. Cornelius is a much better sculpt than the SS Gorilla, with more discernible detail, which is helped by his lighter skin tone. A full-on furred-up HT Cornelius would certainly be more than welcome, though!

Now I wonder...are there POTA horses released by Sideshow or which one do you use?

Dragon made Blitz. He's hard plastic with 'real' mane and tail.

Dragon in Dreams make 'fuzzy' horses, but they don't look right to me:

No POTA horses released by Sideshow.

However, there are plenty of choices.

Ebay is a great stomping ground [as is ioffer I've found] for some sough after grails.
Marx Best of the West
M & C Power Team
Dragon [DML]
Soldiers of the World
these have all released horses for 12" figures. Some are larger than others and some people feel that one might be better suited than others. Again, personal choice. they vary in color and in price. Shop around and you just might surpise yourself as to what you can find.

Merry Christmas Eve

IM- Thank you for still working on that for me. I know you won't let me down. I leave for Pasadena on Wednesday morning and don't return till Jan. 2nd. Maybe something by then?

Yes, the HT gorillas are by far the best gorillas on the market. We still have a few loyal SSC fans here but they don't have an HT gorilla in their paws to help turn their loyalty. Maybe someday. Good luck on your purchases. I hope you score a few HT gorillas. They're very cool. My one minor gripe is regarding HT hands, they seem to come off very easily when trying to pose the wrist a certain way. Unless you like to routinely re-pose your figures like I do this probably wont be a factor.

Just looking at those DiD horses reminds me of when Jom compared them looking like rats. Wow they do look ugly. I think it's the eyes.

Have a great Holiday!!

Sticks, my collection is modest compared to most here. It consists of:

Astro Taylor
Slave Taylor
Slave Nova
Astro Brent
Zira
Cornelius
Regular Zaius
Ursus
2 Gorilla Soldiers
Mutant Leader
Mutant Jailor

I also have some Hasbro 12" and most of the Medi smaller scale set.

Thanks Jom, it seems that you are only missing the Beneath Taylor, Ex. Dr. Z, and Slave Brent.

Ironically, I don't have any sealed Astronauts. I used all my humans for my American Civil War collection.

Any chance you could take some good closeup shots of the headsculpts on those? I'm wondering if they would tranlate well into 1:6 versions if enlarged.

I'll take those shots for you I-man... but it will be a couple of weeks. My better half is in LA for the holidays and has the camera. The medi ones are rather small and I don't think they will translate well blown up to 1/6th scale.

I know someone who may be willing to try hydrospanning them. Supposedly that process has no detail loss.

Thanks again for sharing all the very creative pics.

I liked that "The Flying Aviator Ape", too

I'm looking forward to hearing more about Ironman's ape hairing / fur project. I am thinking about making one more furry ape if I can find a sheet of the right kind of fur (I've written the eBay seller.)

Every time I do a custom project, I learn a little more. I hope I can get really good at this one day.

Here are some in progress shots of one of my latest customs:
