Gawd--working on Urko's mask is making me crave to get my ape on.

I have given up on my Romulan outfit for March12. It's not gonna happen. Too little time and too much to do. So I guess it's Uhura again. Boring!

Ah yes. That thought crossed my mind that you might have meant making several apes with movable eyes. I thought about the problem of painted eyes then tried to imagine glass or plastic eyes on stems. That IS quite a challenge.

I have such a hard time painting eyes, I have even considered purchasing something like this:

But I’m afraid it would be too large and doll-like.

Thanks so much for the kind words. I left the HeeHaw…er ah… I mean “original” soldier there as a comparison. ;)

The original teeth bothered me too. I had to try to rework one of the soldiers and place some small teeth on the bottom. It was very difficult (for me) to keep them from getting too big.

I still have plans to set up a photo shoot for several of my figures when I get back home.

Thanks again - Really. It was a rough day: One of my coworkers / friends was “let go” after 14 years of service. It was quite sad.

It was nice to visit here and “escape” for a while. :)

What a difference to the teeth, huh? I mean...it's so subtle but it really makes the gorilla so much better with the teeth coming up from the bottom instead of from the top. When I do Urko, I'm going to install his teeth from the bottom, and no teeth on top. I'll see how it plays.

He is coming along...I'll give him time to dry out so I can add more liquid latex around the foam edge. Once the edges are all blended nicely, I'm coming in there and giving him a good coat of black pax paint, which I will dry blot with rubber mask grease paint.

Here's my little monkey helper, which is actually a pen, but he will do in a pinch as a pin holder:

This is Apemania's child-sized gorilla next to my Urko. Guys I am second-guessing my work. I feel like the Urko mask is too big. I guess the male face I used to sculpt on is much bigger than the plastic head from monster makers. I'll have to try and dig out some old photos.

You can see the positive here. You can see that his face is much fuller than the Monster Maker mannequin:

And this is the plastic mannequin from Monster Makers:

UPDATES FROM THE APE FACTORY.

First, A very big thank you to Jessica, IronMan, and Angel. Without your help, I wouldn't be here...

Alittle background info as you look through the photos. I'm not going for movie acurate. Matt is doing all my work. I'm basically looking to have all my apes "custom". In order to do this, we have been crafting every piece of clothing, down to the boots and the gloves. We will be creating ape clothes..

All my heads will be hair'd. Matt has a very long painting process. He puts layers of paint on..

As thing progress, I will put up more photos. These are start up photos.

~Sixx

Sixx I like your choice of shoes for Caesar. He's going to look spectacular with real hair. Does he need gloves though? Matt could easily hair up and paint the hands he has now.

Jess,

The hands get hair'd up. This was a basic test fitting. He wanted to make sure the hands would go through the clothes ahead of time.
He will then hair and paint them.

The gloves you see are for my Beneath Apes. He's working on a few projects at a time to save on time.

Jess, your Urko looks pretty good from here. And there are some of us who need a large appliance, as we have rather large melons to apply them to(you wouldn't believe what I go thru to find a hat that fits!)...PS

Guys I'm just going to have to resculpt Zaius. I just saw this photo and he looks too friendly and not menacing. There's so much more to his face.

Funny things you find when you google for images of Zaius. He just needs to comb his bangs down, and he's almost there, huh? Perfect forehead wrinkling for an orangutan I would say. Plus his hair is the right color too.

Here's a beautiful photo/screen grab I found to set the mood of the day. When I sculpt Roddy's appliance, I should remember to put in the dimples on his brows like you see pictured. Never noticed that before.

What the heck is this guy pulling! I am almost embarassed!!

Hi Everyone,

I'm clearing even more apes out of my collection. I'll be posting pictures tonight and then I'll be selling MANY items on eBay.

If interested, stay tuned...

~Angel~

I needed that laugh IM. Mystique's whole left leg fell off (plastic rod holding the leg in place snapped), as I was getting ready to package her. She was not even in an extreme pose. I was just trying to straighten her out some more from a standing position so I could bubble wrap her and the entire left leg fell onto the carpet as I was walking across the room.

:gah::gah::gah::gah::gah::gah::gah::gah::gah::gah:

LOL! That's a cool picture. Next time you see him tell him Jess thinks he makes a perfect orangutan.
