Buyers create scalpers. Blame them.

i think scalping here has come way down as of late. just from what I've noticed. either buyers have wisened up or the economy is making scalping obsolete or SSC isn't offering as scalpable product, probably a combination of all that.

I don't consider selling old product scalping.

Depends on the situation. It is the same thing if I buy something now, it is rare to start, depends a high price so I flip it for that higher price. I buy something now that I know I will sell later when they go dry...that is still flipping even if I flip it 2 years later with that intention. I will give you the person who buys it now to collect who sells it later is maybe not flipping because that was not their original intent but at the same time if they sell it for a higher price and not retail...that is fine line.

The higher ES is hurting the short term flipping, probably but the long term flipper is still good as long as they can buy the right pieces and keep them for at least a year or two.

Thanks, everyone. :duff

It is a very cool sig, Batty, but something was... missing. I hope you won't mind, but I took the liberty of polishing it a bit. Here you go:

Well, I just read all 16 + pages of this thread and I have to be honest in that the person with the most sense is The Ween, in my opinion.

Some of you make very valid points. I understand Blackthornone's original point in that if scalping is discouraged, then posts "glorifying" scalping should be discouraged. I agree.

In the other "light," if people want to buy two of one piece and sell them for a profit, have at it. If someone is willing to risk their money by investing in a collectible, in hopes to make a profit, they're entitled to a profit. However, buying more than their allowance of orders as restricted by SSC is wrong in my opinion, as Ween illustrated in one of her first posts. The limit is set for a reason.

Do I like it when people buy up things just to sell them at a profit? No. Is there anything I can do about it? No. Do I worry about it then? No.

Sometimes there's a limit of one or two on an Ex. If the limit is two, then the person is allowed to buy two and they are within their rights to do with the second one what they want. If they're using multiple accounts, then I agree that's wrong but unless you take it up with Sideshow, there isn't a whole lot you can do about it.

Once again, Do I worry about it? No. Just makes you crazy. :)

^^^ I just wanted to quote her post. Nice job, Ween.

Well SSC restricts what, based on billing/shipping address, account and credit card? That is fine and probably stops most from ordering multiples but I don't feel it is wrong if say one of my family members buys the same statue and then "decides" to sell it to me after they got it for cost. Now I have two and I obtained that second one just like any other way of obtaining, I just go a good deal. :)

Wait, there is someone beyond the initial poster that actually thinks this ridiculous thread should remain open?

In the end this discussion is stupid...

As long as the discussion remains civil without resorting to name calling and such, everyone is entitled to their opinion... and just because you may not agree with that opinion, does not make it stupid or ridiculous, and that is why I would like you to remain civil during the discussion. If everyone believed the same thing and had the same opinions, this world would be a pretty boring place...

That is not what I meant by my comment. I am all for opinions and discussions, I have said or made this known numerous times in various threads. In fact I thought I was being damn civil in my part in this discussion.

quick summary of the last 16 pages:

As for my part, I was suggesting that few tears would be shed should the thread be locked. To use that as a threat suggests that more than the one person wants the thread to keep going.

If everyone believed the same thing and had the same opinions, this world would be a pretty boring place...
Well, North Koreans at least have to act in the way that their "glorious leader" wants them to, and they are probably one of the most interesting places in the world right now. Hard to be bored when you live in total fear.

If it's a family member that is into collecting, etc., I definitely agree. They can sell to whoever, even if it's to another family member who just wanted to sell it for a profit. They can have it.

But when collectors solicit others (ie. friends and family who are "out of the loop") and go out of their way to get another address, CC#s, etc, just to start a new account and purchase those "elite" statues, something is wrong. (That's too much work for me.) And I think it's that latter that occurs more times than not.

You make a good point though. :lecture I want my dad to get into collecting some of the Marvel PFs. (He's a Hulk fan.) Right now, I'm trying to sell him my Grey Hulk PF. That way it stays in the family!

Holy moly Ski...... You joined not too long ago and you're already at 17,000 posts...... :horror You're an animal! :chew

But to comment on the thread, rare collectibles are always going to sell for a premium..... I mean, do you expect to pay retail for an antique?? So because it originally sold for $2 in the 1800's to you expect for the owner to sell it at that price?!?!

C'mon man..... Be realistic. If you don't want to pay a premium for a highly sought out piece, then just don't buy it :peace
