That's the buck?
Hmm, might have to rethink using it then. Or maybe it's a lack of futzing?
Looks very nice, but the proportions do look a bit odd.
Is the head a bit large in your opinion?

Anyway, your work on the uniform is inspiring! Looks brilliant!

The head could be seen to be oversized, but only in comparison to HT or another such company. It's comparable to the SSC heads, like Obi Wan ROTS or Anakin. It's not so noticeable in person though.

I look very forward to painting the rest of them, the pics I saw of them on the site were fantastic. :rock

Got my SFM Spock today, and to be quite honest, I'm at a loss for words...

Is that worth 50 dollars?
Me thinks not.

I'm really very disappointed that they would ship a head in such a state and don't intend to buy any more of their stuff. I'm happy for everyone who got a good casting, but the one I got is just ridiculous. We ^^^^^ and moan about QC in big outfits like HT and SST, but that an operation run by three people would send something as flawed as this is beyond me.

And they are worried that I'll recast it? What a joke.

wow, sucks Abake. I would contact them right away. they seemed to be pretty communicative, so hopefully they will right on getting you a new one.

It looks like it got broken in shipping. I'm sure they would replace it for you. My friend got one and it had a small repair on the ear like yours. Once it is primed and painted you shouldn't be able to tell the difference. I also read the paper that came with the head. It stated that if you were unhappy with the head in any way, including their stand on recasting, they would fully refund your money, including return shipping. Sorry to see you received a damaged one. I'm sure contacting them first would have yeilded a satisfactory resolution.

Of course I will contact them.
But the main issue to me is:
If it got damaged in shipping, then why is there a repair on the ear? And why is the damaged ear squished? I've never seen squished ears in any custom head I've bought.
To me it really looks like it was either shipped defectively or it wasn't fully set, dry or whatever.
Also, look at the hair, it's just not a very clean casting, it's full of residue.
Now, maybe that's the way these things go, but it's the first time I receive a sculpt like this. And I do have a couple of customized sculpts.
So, no, overall I'm not happy with the 50 bucks I spent on it. And I'm really sorry, because I've been rooting for these guys for ages, since I started a ST petition thread years ago. I wish them luck and I'm glad people are happy with what they got, but this just head sculpt doesn't live up to my expectations.

As I said, I'll contact them and I'm sure we'll come to an agreement on what to do, I'm sure they are very nice people.

The putty in the ear was probably to fill an air bubble. Like I said a friend of mine got one and it had the same repair. I have bought many garage kits and custom heads that had these flaws and no attempt was made to correct it. I was able to get some of the original prototype heads that were extras and this Spock is cleaner and nicer than the one I got. Good luck resolving this situation.

Yikes, I'm looking at the photo compared to the one I've got, and Abake is right. Just based on the nits in the hair, this head shouldn't have gotten through. They can do much better. Mine doesn't look like that.

Mine came packaged in a mailing tube, thoroughly wedged in with paper to protect it. Hard to imagine the head getting crushed unless the entire tube was flattened. Was yours packaged the same way, Abake?

The head could be seen to be oversized...

I think these sculpts are suppose to be used for production. Because the produced head will be about 10% smaller.

Poor abake, sad to know you received something that is too far away from you expectation. Xhit happens. I think an email will correct this problem.

Abake, I took the liberty, as I was the one that brought the head offer here, to contact them. They said just send it back and they will refund you in full including the shipping and handling. Sorry this happened to you.

Thanks Ironman!
I also sent them an email, I think I'll wait to get an answer directly from them, as it seems to be the right thing to do.

Still looking forward to seeing all the cool Spocks you guys will customize!

Quick update:
Got a very thoughtful and quick response from Tom and every thing's settled.
Hope you guys get your Spocks and share pics of your customs soon!

Right, so here are the pics of the SFM Spock head sculpt on a regular TT (a little bash I'm working on).

And next to the original head the TT came with:

Just for fun, Jedi Spock!

Please bear in mind that I didn't push the head all the way down into the socket so as to not damage it, thus, it sits slightly higher than usual.

Also, I would like to comment a bit further on the state of the head.
Speaking to Tom he believes the head was damaged during transport and he assures me the "flakes" and "dirt" are residue that can be easily removed.
At any rate, he was very kind and understanding and the head is being shipped back to him today.

Still looking forward to seeing more pics of Spock as you guys receive and paint yours!

Ahhhh, thanks :)

I don't think it looks too big....though I'm not necessarily one that's "In the know...", what do you guys think?

I think these sculpts are originally make for mass production (blow molding, etc.) Therefore, it must be made a bit bigger. The end-product usually about 10% smaller than the original.

Got around to painting my head yesterday, thought I'd share. This is my first time painting at this scale, I think it went pretty well!

He's on a Truetype, and he's wearing a Playmates 90's spock uniform. No, it doesn't fit very well, and the back is velcro....I tightened it in the back, it looks bad. But from the front, it looks good.
