You can make reservations for hotels for next year right now if you want to. Just find the # or emails of all the hotels in San Diego and start calling. I already booked mine for next year while I was down there. I don't know if you want to use the SDCC Rate, I have never used it, don't know if it is even a discount, but you can do it manually now.

Umm...Hilton Bayfront. Guy I'm going with a guy who has parents who work for the Government, so we got a Government rate Plus you fit like 8 people in 1 room and it's like $40/day

There was like literally no room. You couldn't even walk on the floor, which is where I slept in a sleeping bag. With all the people, plus all the swag, we were staking on top of eachother. I think I accidentally got laid without even knowing it
