Buffy has a much, much larger following than Serenity/Firefly and lasted for 7 seasons, but that couldn't sustain an ongoing line.

Maybe not sustain, but it still did pretty well.
Lookiong at the PF's on SS website, only the Reg Spike is still in-stock, the Reg and Ex Angel PF's are on wait lists, while all the rest are sold out. And while I don't know about you, I could go for a couple more.

Looking at the 12" figure line, out of 43, 4 are on wait-list and only 6-7 are in-stock. Now thats not doing too bad, is it?

Besides, we don't need them to sustain a firefly line, just to make a good start and hit the major characters. Its not like the Monty Python line was a long sustain product line, but they still did it.

It's being developed like a filming miniature, really cool.

And really, believe me, a Firefly/Serenity license would sell really well. There are thousands of fans who would definitely be interested.

Yeah, actually just saw that after I posted... wonder if it will still be $500 like it was originally advertised?

Really, I couldn't find any prices on the Serenity site... what does the other stuff sell for?

I'm also interested in the Cylon Raider they're working on, kinda hoping its more affordable.

So this is a completely different company developing the ship replica?

How can you order it?

I thought QMX killed the ship replica concept because the R&D costs were just too high.

That's just not my cup of tea. But if we are going for stylized and smaller I would love to see some Firefly Minimates or Kuricks.

It's being built by The FX Company and QMx, they're still working on getting a prototype put together but they hope to have it on order by the end of the year or perhaps early next year. They never stopped their idea, they just got severely delayed with all the problems they had with the other props.

...we see a canceled line.

...we see a canceled line. Nobody cancels a moneymaker.

Unfortunately, that is the bottom line.

And as long as this thread is way off topic anyway....
I think the only way to do it, and this is NOT SSC's style so I'm saying if some other company picked it up, is to do a "pay now" pre-order. In other words, from the start make it known that there needs to be a significant interest by PAYING customers in order to get more figures made.
Toy companies have learned the hard way that fans love to say they'd buy things and then they don't.
Serenity is the benchmark for fans not putting their money where their mouths are. Or rather, eventually (on DVD) putting their money where their mouths are. If you went by pre-release fanboy hype, that movie should have been huge. And I love the movie, so I'm not being a hater. I'm just saying that it's understandable why companies don't put their faith in the license.

I think it was a lot more that made Serenity not do so well. For me, at the time of the movie I hadn't ever heard of it or Firefly and the few TV promos I saw were extremely vague as far as what it was about and it was also the year Star Wars Episode 3 came out so I had other things to pay attention to. So I think there were several things that caused problems for it.

and yet, we also see the new Toon-up statues be released. Buffy is already sold out and I think Willow is well on its way.

So, maybe its not a case of cancelling a moneymaker, but dropping it in order to move onto something else that makes even more money.

As for the movie, I'm sure Star Wars didn't help, but it was also just due to how short Firefly was. I have yet to come across someone that after I tell them about it, they come back a bit later and say, yeah, that was a great series, why on earth did they can it.

Had we gotten 2-3 full seasons of Firefly, I have no doubt the fan base would be huge. Some short-sighted suit really dropped the ball on that one.

The fan base is actually pretty good considering. It's kind of weird though, I haven't met anyone who's seen Serenity or Firefly, I keep telling people about it and a couple people have looked into it and they've liked it also.

Oh yes, the internet hype for Serenity was huge. And I'm sure that everyone who was hyping it went to see it. The problem is that nobody else did.

Firefly is such a sad story (the story behind the series, not the story in the series itself). It could have been one of the greats if it had continued a while longer. I loved the series, but I don't think I love it enough to spend hundreds of dollars on figures or ship replicas, and I sure as hell won't be buying something like this. I'm not sure what they're thinking with these offerings. My guess is that they feel that there is a strong female fan base and they're trying to appeal to that with this and the "spirit animal" nonsense.

I think of this stuff more as filler, the prop replicas are more difficult to develop and they really have to make stuff that lots of people will want, like Mal's gun and the ship replica, beyond stuff as recognizable as those they can't do a lot.

The thing is that something like Star Wars can get away with filler of that type, but I have a feeling that most fans only have so much they're willing to spend on Firefly. Of course I'm sure there are some hardcore fans who will buy anything.

I might be willing to buy more filler type stuff if I knew there were some kind of figures to go along with it. All these paper goods, spirit WTF animals, and now this feel like beating around the bush. If I'm never going to have decent figs to display with the other stuff I'm not really interested. And I am a fairly hardcore Firefly/Serenity fan. In my opinion, and I realize I'm picking from the cream of the cream of the crop, I think it's some of Whedon's best stuff. I love hearing his dialogue stripped of the pop culture refs that sometimes got out of hand on Buffy.
So far the only Serenity products I own, aside from DVDs, are the movie action figures, which are lame, but not as lame as some people think, the ship ormnament, which is pretty cool, and the Ada Chan Mal head which my jury is still out on.
But who are we kidding? We're all just clicking away, waiting for an update from Trev.:D
*coughs*
