Should Hot Toys re-release Preds? Yes or No? Opinions?

Like I said, I wouldn't have a problem with them upgrading older figures. The value might go down, but that's not the only reason we collect, is it? This is cool, badass stuff. Having a company that's become as skilled as HT go back to our favorite characters and pumping them up would be great. And the relative cheapness upon release could keep older collectors happy too -- especially if the sculpts and paint apps are totally different.
But... HT hasn't been known to do that in the past. They'll release variants out the yin-yang, but no redos or upgrades. Maybe there's a reason for that, perhaps the same one everyone else here has agreed upon.

As for your question on secondary market value, like Nam said, it's not really the sellers that encourage the price to increase. It's the buyers. A seller of any product will price their items at the maximum amount he/she thinks the public is willing to pay. So when a HT Predator 2 Elder usually goes for $600 and then someone bids $700, in many cases that will become the new price. There is somewhat of a limit, I mean the P2 Elder also went for over 1K at a certain point, though we all know that was an exaggeration and it's unlikely for it to happen again. Still, we (the buyers) control the pricing up to a certain degree.

If there's an older piece you want, save up for it and don't buy any of the new stuff. Wait a few months until you have enough money, then get that coveted piece you never thought you'd own. Crossing a line and working for it can add even more reward to your figure.

My point exactly. Stop expecting everything for nothing. If you're not willing to put any effort into it, you don't deserve it.

I think its pretty much been said already in here but this is my 2 cent on the situation. Really if Hot Toys Decides to keep releasing old figures they make over and over, people are going to consider them a cheap toy company like Neca, Mcfarlane, ETC....I dont care what anyone says, them companies are not near the collectible level as HT is. I got really excited starting to collect HT over these other companies because the rareness of some of the pieces.

I think everyone gets into collecting also to hope that what they buy may one day be worth more money and become somewhat of an investment...so just in case you decide to sell, hey...heaven forbid you made some money along the way by being a SMART buyer. This has nothing to do with greed or dishonesty, it has to do with making a smart buying decision for the future.

I think at the moment HT understands this concept and I think overall they would piss many hardcore collectors off if they started re-releasing products over and over. Yea, they could probably release predators that look better than the older ones now-a-days but eh...id rather just have the originals ( all of them are still completely awesome and better than just about anything else right now ).

If you consider a seller dishonest, greedy because they want a FAIR market price for an item and to somehow "give you a deal" because you got into the game late....psh.....give me a break. Its like selling your car for $5000 less than what the Kellyblue book average price of it is to help someone out you do not know at all. This attitude of everyone having to give everything to people just Erks me to no end. That is what is wrong with this country, everyone wants free hand outs but dont want to put forth any effort to earn stuff on there own.!!!

^ good post above. They should not re-release unless they a new movie warrents the new release of the "old" and previously portrayed character.

BD P2, Cleaner Wolf are upgraded releases that came out "soon" after the original P2 and Wolf, so yes, that was a ____ move for Hot Toys. But its still no where as close as coming out with a BD AVP Celtic 5 years later, for example.

So by the naysayers' logic, earlier, iconic characters like Ripley, Kyle Reese, the Endoskeleton, Rambo and Rocky shouldn't be remade with modern standards? Even if they had different costumes or accessories?

^ that's being remade. That's not the problem they're talking about...they're talking about a full on reissue of the figures. The exact figure, re-released how it was.

A classic given the DX treatment is fine. Re-releasing a figure compromises the original release, the integrity of the company and is an affront to the collectors who bought them originally/acquired him down the road.

As I missed an original release of the Predator I would like to see a DX original Predator with a movable mouth and eyes.

no. but purely for selfish reasons... i have almost every one of them and i'd hate to see their value diminish... ha!

but from a collectible's perspective, would really be nice to see some of the older preds with the new bodies HT has developed...

attaching your ego to your toy collection is ____ing retarded. they're just things and it's not like you can see manufactured scarcity by looking at them. i collect HT figures because they look cool in my display case. i couldn't care less how many other people have them.

if you find yourself in a situation where you need a few hundred bucks from flipping toys, you aren't handling your finances on an adult level to begin with and you probably have no clue what a smart investment is. it also means you can't afford the hobby. stop buying $200 toys and pay your bills. spoiled kids and wage-slaves are not entitled to own expensive collectibles. they're a luxury for those who have disposable income and that's who HT markets to. there's a reason why you can't get these at walmart. i've never heard any respectable financial adviser tell anybody to stock up on ____ing toys.
No because: current owners have insecurity issues.
exactly.

Didn't you sell off a lot of your Hot Toys a couple years back for financial reasons? :lol

And given your level of frugality, I don't think you have anything pertinent to add to the topic ($50 for a complete set of AvP Snap Kits :lol:rotfl:lol:rotfl:lol).

A smile cracked when I looked at the for sale section yesterday seeing so many offloading their Batman figures. Nam, remember those days when they all said The Dark Knight was so precious to them?

The thing that amuses me the most is how too many people go back on their word(s), sworn how precious it was to them and when this is done they've got nearly zero of a collection. Yet some of them call themselves Hot Toys fanboys.

I'm not criticizing them for what they are doing. They can sell it all and for all they want. It's just the fact too many have short memories. Or choose to, "Figure of the year" talk, then some of them it's now a figure they no longer like or it's deemed a not very good one now but with high prices, some of them. ;) Soon as one does it too many seem to pile on.

If they were that much of a fanboy they would be saying they'd have to be killed to pry their collectibles out of their dead hands. Does that make me a fanboy? I haven't sold one figure since the day I started collecting.

1/6 wise I haven't as well, a few statues (TMNT), some MOTUC but nothing huge exception of a Dr. Doom PF Ex for my wedding fund.

It's nice to see the serious collectors out there who just aren't in it for pure profit or for the next thing. Those that actually cherish their items in a sane way without getting freakishly obsessed.

I was beginning to think at times this board had too few. Or maybe I can't seem to find them because it's always slaggered with so many Hot Toys crap wish lists, polls, sales, customs threads whatever you want to come up with Hot Toys is next to it that it's like a friggin maze.

At times this board just doesn't feel like it has serious adult collectors that are rational.
