It's still 12" to 12". And that was the beginning for Star Wars. Though I'm sure it was probably $10. That one is pretty good too.
Right but regardless scale and the fact that they're both figures of 3PO is about where the comparisons end. It's in no way fair to realistically compare a a toy made by Hasbro to a collectible that cost hundreds.

I remember Tamashii based the height off of the actor in the suit which just so happened to not be the actual height of C-3P0 oddly enough. If I remember correctly C-3P0 is shorter than the actor (I know I should know the name by heart I'm just coming to a blank right now haha). However, I remember reading that a long time ago so maybe my memory on it is completely wrong haha

Anthony Daniels who played 3PO is actually 5'9" and that's what the tamashi is based on. It is exactly 11 1/2" to the top of the rounded dome of his head. If you look at 3po he has an extra ridge on top of his head.

So the figure to the top of the ridge is actually a bit taller. About 1/8 of an inch so 11 5/8". But if you take into account to fact that Daniels head could not be any higher than the dome it is in perfect scale.

Star Wars specs have him at 1.67 meters which is only 5' 5 3/4". I seriously doubt he shrank almost 4 1/4". I'm almost positive those specs have been around way before the prequels. I remember seeing those specs on the card backs of the POTF2 figures back in 1995.

He just meant look how far the hobby in this scale has come, that's all. Like comparing a television from the eighties to a 4K high def TV of today.

That pic is also great evidence that Luke was only 5'7". He looks about 2 inches shorter than 3PO.

An yeah, anyone have one of these and the Tama?

Yeah, I have both the Kenner and Tama. I also have the electronic Hasbro. I don't think it's fair to compare them either as the Kenner and Hasbro figures weren't created as collectibles but toys. They were designed and engineered to be played with by children, not for scale accuracy and articulation. While some of the manufacturing processes available today and some materials didn't exist back then, artistic talent did.

I'll try to do it tomorrow. :) But they're completely different types of products, even if they're the same subject.
Ha. Yeah definitely. Still just interesting to see. I love seeing the original vintage SW figures next to the super articulated figures of today, though obviously with those it's still debatable whether the main market there is still kids.

Main market this year is clearly kids and has been for the last few years.

Kids like both SA and 5POA, they really do not care.

Collectors mostly like SA (aside from vintage collectors obviously, but currently collectors like SA and hate 5 POA).

With the new TFA products, all figure are 5POA which are clearly geared toward kids and are mostly hated on by current collectors.
