C-3PO looked like sh-t in TFA, and it was more than just the red arm. His costume looked like some newb bought a 501st casting off ebay and prepped it. And he was fat. JJ gave him minimal screen time to hide these things but honestly, don't do this again in VIII.

If HT does a C-3PO with the red arm it will probably be idealised to look more OT.

Well, not wholly promising pictures... BUT the fact that Sideshow is advancing any pictures at all is telling me that they're proud of this figure. So again perhaps it is in fact better in hand.

One can hope. Certainly those who have the Tamashii should be relieved (not that there was much likelihood that this figure was ever going to beat it).

My biggest concern now is the height relative to R2 and the HT line-up. 3PO looks taller than it did. I'm assuming (hoping) its likely the camera angles.

Keeping my order, for those keeping score.

I was an early hater of this fig (Leno chin, doubts about finish, the fact SSC hid that they were doing a 3PO while selling the more $$$ Tama) but preordered it anyway. This one to me is like SSC IG-88 - not a total home run likeness-wise but a fun engineering marvel that has a ton of articulation. And yeah, the playability on this is the major plus over the Tama - that fig scares me to even pick it up, let alone repose it.:lol

If people don't love this, the Tama is regularly available for less than $100 over the retail on this fig. And it's worth about $100 more than this fig - it's a superior headsculpt, captures the 3PO posture better and is metal. Me... not interested in TFA stuff, so I'm allowed to get both.:yess:

Just a bump so people can see what we're talking about.

Up close ithe paint apps look cheap but mine are behind glass in a Besta therefore, it isn't a big deal. No one will be observing it that closely...:dunno

Fat? Dude, you guys are just plain nuts with this stuff....

I don't mind the "dripping stains" but the "muck" inside the dent and the nose and the chest detail is odd. Like some guy was told to "pencil in every crevice". :lol

Likely have to do a little "wiping off". Maybe even add some actual dripping oil myself. Could be fun to really make him dirt.

On R2, some people had some real amazing success with blotting the dirt deco into a really nice weathering pattern of blotchy dirty. Be good here too.

Yeah, if I'd kept my PO on this I'd be pretty satisfied - it's a very good match with R2, which also had some issues but was on balance a good buy and fun figure.

I hope you're right, W.G. While getting the paint apps on the final production pieces has always been a challenge for Sideshow, at least Artoo ended up looking fairly close to the one in the prototype photos. I'm disappointed that Threepio is falling so short of the mark this time around, especially since my primary reason for picking this guy up is to have a weathered version of the character in contrast to the Tamashii figure.

Tamashii will remain to be the gold standard, clearly. I say that not having one.

Sideshow's 3PO will hopefully work well with their R2, and look good as a pair.

I may pick one up and just weather that bad boy myself.
If I can work with a Hasbro turd, then this should be a piece of cake.

Overall , I like it.
Its a threepio with posable hands (although the thumbs look wonky)
Light up eyes
Removeable Arm
Decent Gold paint
Nice articulation.

I agree the weathering looks really shoddy, but that is a pretty easy thing to work with. I think it will look less offensive at normal viewing angels. The one that bothers me most is not the mid chest , its the left side of the face below the "jaw" line.

YUP, I do not want the tami version on my detolf shelf....and Hot toys? Well......I dunno how much better it would be.....and likely 300 also.

I am happy with what I am seeing...

Yeah, I'm thinking I might just soften up some of the weathering myself. Any tips?
