Super excited to add threepio to the mix. Artoo has been very lonely. Only weird thing is the thumbs they look really weird and claw like. May try adding some more subtle weathering as well as watching ANH last night noticed in most scenes he had quite a bit of tarnish on his body throughout. Awesome figure though!

This removes any doubt I had about re-doing the weathering. I hope his factory paint some will hold up to some turpenoid.

Someone posted earlier they were able to remove it with just rubbing alcohol... turpenoid would likely remove the weathering and maybe even the underlying paint :lol

Look at how much of the legs and hip pieces were cut away to allow for sitting. I doubt this figure is going to sit down convincingly.

so has anyone been able to get the batteries out of 3po. really want to remove them so they dont leak. if anyone figure it out can you post here or PM me. thanks

In some of the earlier posts it's demonstrated his head lifts out of it's socket. The batteries are in a black battery holder within the neck.

I still think the tamashii looks better.maybe it`s just something that`s throwing him off. :dunno

Tamashii is better. There's no argument to be made. With Sideshow's attempt, the body proportions, curves and lines don't match up to the real thing. And that's just a quick glance at the face and chest of 3PO. The curve under, and shape of, the pecs, the way the bottom of the neck "pistons" land just inside the clavicle indent instead of outside of it, etc., etc., etc...

SS left, Tamashii right.

The Tamashii is much more accurate. And metal, like a real droid.

I would like to fix the crazy thumbs. I need to take a hard look at it to see if it can be snapped off and reset.

As to the forever "Tamashii is better" comments, preference is clearly in ownership.

However, here's a comp of the above pics to better highlight.

As has always been the case, the Tamashii is EXCELLENT!

However, I do see many things they got wrong besides "pistons in the clavicles" they got right. I don't see the chest area to look particularly accurate, not the necks rings, nor neck, etc, etc...

That said, its a spectacular piece. Not sure its 'more' accurate than Sideshow's though. They both have pros and cons.

That "thumb" really is fugly. There really is no way to turn it some without breaking it?

I'm afraid not. My Threepio arrived today and the thumbs are sadly attached to a hinge joint that only rotates 10º at best. It's great the fingers are all articulated, but designing the thumbs to bend at such an unnatural looking angle really kills what Sideshow tried to accomplish here. It's really unfortunate.
