I think people need to settle down with their "mine's bigger than yours" crap.

As has been stated by those able to be mature enough to accept it, there are pro's and con's for both.

Here's the Tama on the left and a screen grab straight off Ep4. And don't start with the lighting, lens aberration, etc. The SCULPT is what we're talking about. As an example, anyone that can't admit how bad the area around the eyes is, is simply fooling themselves.

Judge for yourselves:

That's a particularly bad pic of the Tami you've put alongside the screen grab. The flat lighting in the face and dark eyes gives an inaccurate illusion of what the face looks like. Why not post the pic of the weathered Tami? If you are gonna make comparisons then use the best pics of both or the worst pics of both to make those judgement.

I completely agree that both have their inaccuracies by the way. And I like both from what I've seen.
Having the Tami for quite a while now I can say that it's not slim enough in the lower body and the legs are too chunky. Looking at these pics of the SS I think the head sculpt is off as are the body proportions are wrong, the hands are strange and the mouth pinched. The slenderness of the body is great and he looks spot on profile.

IMO the Tami wins hands down if I had to choose though. I would be very interested to hear from someone who has both in hand not just people on either side justifying their purchases against the alternate they don't have.

Been interesting folowing this thread. I think both figures have some great qualities. For me, it's often one detail that will push things over the edge. I love the base paint on the SSC, in spite of the rudimentary factory weathering. I like the lines overall. But those thumbs would push me over to the Tama, with maybe a weathering job. At any rate you completists are going down a path I cannot follow! ;) Carry on.

Oh, I don't know if I'd consider Threepio to be a "completist's" figure. For some people, an Artoo/Threepio combo might just be all they need on a shelf to represent the entire saga. In my more lucid moments, that's exactly the sort of display I want.

Then my compulsive nature kicks in...

Prequel quotes in an OT thread....pfffft.

I know, right? I feel dirty. :rotfl

That's the thing about Star Wars -- I've come up with so many possibilities for iconic displays that represent everything. That Artoo/Threepio combo is definitely one of them, but given my preferences Threepio veers into completist territory for me, or at least 12-back territory.

To be honest I may have gone down that road but I'm also a fan of Bruce Lee and a handful of superheroes, so my compulsive nature wants balance in my collection. If I didn't love stormtroopers and sandtroopers so much, I could have used just X-Wing Luke for the whole damn thing. As it is, I'm picking and choosing.

...and somehow Chewie squeaked through. Never planned on that one. :dunno

This hobby.

Regardless of the pros and cons I'm looking forward to getting this tonight...it's ready for pickup at the UPS location!

I recieved my 3PO yesterday. Awesome looking figure! It was worth the wait. My wife asked me if I wanted to be alone with my gold rod.:/

Anyway...
I find the weathering to be more subtle in hand than in some of the photos. It does look a bit like they were outlining the panels, but all in all it's not that bad. I do have one or two tiny pinhead chips in the chest and cod area. They're not noticeable thanks to the weathering.

Did anyone else need to use more than "gentle" force to remove the head. First of all my fingers are too big to grab the neck, and second the neck/head took a bit of pulling to get it out. Same goes with the arm. I nearly pulled the wireing from the exclusive stump to get it out. I won't be swapping those items anytime soon. I do like that the small details are rubbery as mentioned ealier. There isn't that fear of hearing "snap"!

The plain stand is ok with me. I think R2 should've come with a similar base, so they're raised to the same height when displayed.

At the end of the day this figure is great. The light up eyes are a nice touch, the arm pistons look good and work well and with all the articulation it's just a fun figure to pose. I think Sideshow did a heck of a good job on this and R2.

Mine arrives today. Sold my Tama long ago so it'll be good to get Threepio back on the shelf. More than likely this will by my last SS figure.

If there were two figures per movie, these two could handle Star Wars as the movie runs through them. Then maybe Han/Leia for Empire and Luke/Vader for ROTJ. But what about Chewie and Ben?? Too many awesome looking characters in the Star Wars galaxy. If you bump it to three per movie then all is resolved.

ANH: 3PO, R2, Ben
ESB: Han, Leia, Chewie
ROTJ: Luke, Vader, Emperor

Oh no, where's Yoda!? No Boba? Okay 4 per movie.........or maybe 5.

I've seen the movie 3 times and completely missed that! Are you sure?

That's what I read in the Cantina from someone who's seen it 6 or 7 times. :lol

I'm going for my third viewing this weekend I think. I read that it's the final scene so it may be just a glimpse. There might be a photo circulating around.

Will have to check it out, if so great news. I will look forward to the *Exclusive Accessory* Hot Toys gold arm version of 3PO later in the year. :lol

They will, very shortly but it may have a red arm. I would imagine an announcement is coming any day now.

I think they will wait until Sideshows is almost fully sold and shipped out and then present their own droid set.

They will be a purchase and hope they are clean. :)

He gets the gold arm back at the end of the movie supposedly. Swap out arm?

It's true. All of it.
