Well, I guess things are sort of going toward the way they should be - don't pre-order anything. Don't pay too much attention to the hand-painted proto. Wait to see in-hand pics.

Do companies use PO's to gauge the amount to make? Who cares? They need to show the actual product now to get the sale, not the figure Laila just finished hand painting.

In the old days, many Sideshow figures would "sell out" in the PO stage. EX's do still sell out periodically ahead of release, but there's nearly always many other options for non-EX's (and even EX's) - HT or SSC - at time of release, so why PO? Get some small EX accessory (hey, set of folded gloves for Luke-X-Wing!:lol)? Maybe lock in a discount code, but that's counterbalanced by the potential loss of a non-refundable deposit.

PO's have more become a sort of a "be part of the phenomenon" or "express my excitement" more than "guarantee I get one." The truth is, even without a PO, it's rare you wouldn't get a figure.

Some EX's are worth it - HT Marty's guitar, SSC Luke Hoth's EX damaged head - and they were expensive after release to buy separately, but most are not worth it or that expensive after release.

I can't see HT wanting to share their factory with anyone, that's their advantage over other manufacturers. I imagine Sideshow need HT much more than HT need SSC. HT could eventually distribute on their own worldwide, or simply get another supplier in the US to stock their figures in that region.

It's a shame that Sideshow's paint jobs are not up to the level of other producers. They really need to look into investing in having someone on the ground at the factory full time. If they can't keep up with the rest of them, they will soon find themselves out of the 1/6 market. Even now they don't have that many on the market. Looks like they're out of the TFA 1/6 line at this stage.

Yes, apparently we are not allowed to discuss anything about a figure on this forum until people post in-hand pics (even then it still gets locked). :monkey3

Very strange. I would think this discussion only helps sideshow. Sure many wil not order the luke figure because of the bad paintjob, but it will help sideshow in the long run. If they will continue along this path, forever will it dominate their future ;). They'll be out of the market due the competition left and right. They still have the name. If they would be on top their game they could rule the market. I love my scout troopers but had to pass on all their human characters.

To be frank, that is a good thing.

I agree with you all.

The head sculpt is the most important aspect of a 1/6th scaled figure. A good sculpt will save a mediocre figure and a bad sculpt will doom a good figure. It will also guarantee more sales of the complete figure, as many collectors will also utilize the good sculpt to upgrade previous versions or create custom figures, along with having the original figure in their collections.

Put into the perspective of the ToD Indy, a good sculpt here will guarantee additional sales as people flock to update their original SS and/or HT Indys.

It looks like my next-to-last Flex payment is on schedule for this weekend.

Though, that's not unusual. If they're going to delay, they usually let you know shortly before the last payment is due. We'll know in a couple weeks, I suppose.

Everyone's battering the SS Luke sculpt, but it's a better Hamill likeness than HTs for sure. Now if they could just improve their paint apps...

:pray::pray::pray:This is the figure I'm crossing all my fingers (& toes)
that a company finally gets it right and gives us the indy figure we've all been waiting for!
Soon we'll have an idea, and I hope we will be praising it instead of bagging it!

Well it said that was original slated for December. I hope that comes early because this and Batman returns are my Christmas and birthday presents.

I've heard that everytime someone 'hopes it comes early' Sideshow add another month delay.
...so thanks a lot for that.

:D

Unfortunately the sculpt and paint come bundled as a package deal.

And the SSC sculpts - while good in likeness overall - also lack finer sculpt detail. So it's not just the paint apps.

... and Red Five Luke is even MORE tanned than Luke Hoth was. Maybe the tan will work with Indy?
