You should probably read around the forum and look at the other figs SSC has done.

This is their most recent https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/...ed-five-wing-pilot-sixth-scale-figure-92.html

Thanks for the link!
What's odd (or maybe not so much, actually) is the split... some bash it, some think it's better in-hand than pics would reveal. Everyone's lamenting the price point (or more accurately the lack of substantial extras at that price point), but at this stage, you might as well be yelling at a mountain - nothing's gonna give there (sadly).

This was also a year ago, no? ("ish")
Are they making strides towards closing the gap between prototype & production sculpts? I mean, jeez - the pics of ToD Indy look pretty sweet to me!

No, X-Wing Luke just released a month or so ago.

I can't really answer to how close they are closing the gap. That's all opinion. They show off hand-painted protos by the best in the business (which is what you've seen of Indy) which is why you think it looks great. You won't get something that looks that good.

The Drake figure was an aberration in what they've done over the last few years That's picking out the absolute worst, Snake Plissken and the Star Wars Hoth figures were better, but they've since abandoned that production process, so it's really not even worth discussing in regards to Indy, which is why I point to X-Wing Luke, that's the quality we can expect from the ToD Indy.

I would recommend you not place a pre-order, and wait till you see what it looks like when it's finished.

VERY much appreciated! Settled - I hold off till Feb, or whenever the production photos start appearing.

How is it that SSC gets away with this, varying SO greatly from prototype to production? Have they ever issued a statement about it, i.e. changes they're making to rectify, etc.?

sideshow's communication with their clients is non existent. when the drake thing happened they sold what they could and the the figure disappeared from their website never to be seen again. when you call the with the concern of a figure the costumer service staff says if you don't like it return it. the figures that have been well received is because in hand they appeal to the eye but the paint job in pictures reveal how soft the paint apps are.

So they're essentially the Nintendo of collectible figures? Properties everyone adores, yet they mishandle them in the worst ways possible?

I just the email today about the delay to Feb! I mean, it's been nearly a week since Texas got his email! Wonder why some people get those emails so much sooner than others!

I already got that email saying that it was pushed back to Feb. The was just an "UPDATE" email. I hope that after these delay sideshow does not drop the ball again.

At least we as a community are finally mature enough to no longer post the standard, 'perhaps its because this time they are really paying attention to quality'

Hey guys (and gals) - please excuse my naivete, but I noticed something about the Indy figure page that's absent versus the Ash Williams Evil Dead II page. At the top, where it has the little coloured button that says "Exclusive", on the Ash page it has an orange box with "Prototype Shown" in it. Also, under the last bullet point as to what's included, it has this disclaimer:

"Item shown is a prototype. When shipped, the final production piece may differ in appearance."

That is also missing from the Indy page... does this signify in any way a final product that COULD potentially be closer to what's pictured as far as the Indy sculpt goes? (If the disclaimer's gone, maybe they're not as concerned with covering themselves, assuming they've seen the final product?) ...(Am I reaching, here??)

Sadly that is definitely reaching. That is definitely a prototype and the end product will not be that detailed or well painted. I fear mostly how the eyes will come out--they always seem to get that aspect particularly wrong. They may be shooting themselves in the foot by not having that disclaimer.

Damn.
I was hoping it signified something positive.

Maybe without that disclaimer, dissatisfied customers (assuming it doesn't turn out well) may have a leg to stand on..?

Delays have to do with Sideshow wanting to cash in on HT Star Wars distribution fees from all the Christmas purchases. Get it into their hands and get that money, fast.

It's called catch-up, nothing more.... and they will delay their inferior product to do so.

Even if he's stellar I still have a hard time with $229 for the amount of stuff/costume you get. I know, license fees and dat mouse but it's still a bitter pill.
