Delays have to do with Sideshow wanting to cash in on HT Star Wars distribution fees from all the Christmas purchases. Get it into their hands and get that money, fast.

It's called catch-up, nothing more.... and they will delay their inferior product to do so.

Hmmm. Interesting theory.

^^Must be a much cheaper license though. I really like this sculpt but have a tough time feeling like their paint finish will have improved all that much given how Luke X-wing is.

As soon as production photos are posted, someone's courteous enough to post them here, correct? :)

They'll be here. But you might not be able to see them clearly through the tears of disappointment.

Those tears sting, apparently... I'm trying to prepare myself, but as a (potential) first-time buyer of a Sideshow 1/6th-scale, I can't help but feel a touch hopelessly optimistic...?

We've all been there.

First there's shock. Then denial. Then the pain really kicks in.

Or...we could get lucky and by some miraculous fluke SS does a good job. It does happen occasionally.

If the worst comes to the worst SS Indy might look good under an X-Wing helmet.

Ok, so realistically, what are the odds this thing actually turns out better-than-average, and we don't have to kitbash it with a Star Wars figure?!

Define 'better than average' The thing won't be a disaster ....Indy is relatively easy to do at least...
Hot Toys screwed their version up because of a rolling eye system that ruined the sculpt and using a muscle body unsuited for Harrison Ford.
This version has neither one of those problems ... the outfit will be acceptable and the paint job will be similar to X-Wing luke.
I think the battle damage will actually help it ... blood/dirt grime adds extra to the sculpt and means that amazing 'pure' skin detail or lack of, isn't as noticeable.
A 1/6 sculpt is pretty small and they generally look fine on a shelf ..its only when you blow them up to 5 times their normal size in high def in a flat 2D image and post it online that problems become really obvious. That why everyone ALWAYS posts, 'no really, it looks better in hand' ....yes, of course it does.

The only real danger I see is 'Sideshow googly eyes' .... where the factory gets so lazy they can't even be bothered aligning the eyes properly. Thankfully I don't think we've seen that in the last year+ in either PF or 1/6.

Honestly, if you need perfection and movie prop level quality, then you shouldn't be ordering product from Sideshow.

Thanks for the perspective! I know the Nathan Drake aberration is easily cited, but I've also heard that was a worst-case one-off situation where they completely sh@t the bed (read: hopefully never to be repeated) - the paint, the misshapen head, the pink-eye, etc. It's nice to hear a different perspective, as well - namely that this may not be a disaster as is widely expected.

It's tough for someone like me, who A) desperately wants a 1/6th Indy (and wasn't impressed by the HT Raiders sculpt - their 'PERS' system ruins things that aren't Batman), B) sees the ToD product page and drools, and finally C) never had any prior experience with the legendary SideShow quality!

Like you said, though: if problems only appear when magnified in photos, and it's actually pretty impressive "in-hand" (<< this too is a concept I've not experienced, and has me the most curious), then I'll be a happy camper, despite this figure not capturing his most iconic look, i.e. the Raiders getup.

So the dreaded SSC googly-eye-thing has been remedied lately?? GOD I hope that's the case. I had to sift through a carton of NECA's First Blood figures before I found a John Rambo that didn't look c@ck-eyed :(

Man, I wish production photos would surface already...

Yeah it's not worth comparing anything to Nathan Drake. That was a production issue .... though it is worth noting the complete lack of ethics of Sideshow there.
Other companies like BCS and QMX balked when they saw production errors not nearly as bad and redid them, and/or provided replacements.

But Snake Plissken, Hoth Han/Luke, X-Wing Luke is around the quality we should expect.
(I actually think the best estimate is the battle damaged Hoth Luke to give an idea of battle damaged Indy)

That's actually the most worrying part: SideShow's handling of the issue. Actually quite surprising, especially in this day and age of Facebook rants/social media backlash. I'm more than a little shocked that it just kind of went away (semi-)quietly...

So then the question I'll ask you is, Was the Battle Damaged Hoth Luke well-received? Snake Plissken was ok, no?

Both of those photograph pretty poorly, as they had really minimal paint apps on the face and still used the separate eye system. Most people who went through with their orders/purchases say they look better in hand, which as an owner of the Hoth figures, is true, but they're still not amazing. Those figures came packed with a lot (multiple head sculpts, accessories) so it was easier to accept the price to a degree. Snake was/is a very inexpensive figure by today's prices so that probably got it some more leeway.
Indy is an expensive-ish figure given what it is (no jacket, one head sculpt), so hopefully they do a nice job with it.
The strange thing with the Luke battle damaged sculpt is that one seemed to be painted or cast in a paler color (maybe to make him seem sickly). Some people hate that sculpt but I think it's okay. I tend to prefer sculpts that don't have hair though since that adds a bit to the realism. Indy fits that bill for me. Only collect Star Wars at the moment though so it would likely have to be pretty good for me to bite.

Thanks for the input!!! Such a weird situation - pricing, paint application, number of accessories... I wish I knew what to expect from the final product in this particular case, i.e. will they continue the (marginally?)-upward trend of quality? I've made peace with the accessories, though the price is still about $30 too much; however, I would still grab it if the sculpt/paint were on point.

I wonder why the huge sudden price jump for the Indy property, however (not that we can do a thing about it). I would've thought $199-209 maximum.

Waiting for production photos feels like an eternity. Even if I weren't this interested, based on all the discussion/answers you guys have given me, I'd still be dying to see final product versus that killer prototype sculpt!

I think everyone has pretty much said all there is to watch out for. Like they said, Snake, damaged Hoth Luke and X-Wing Luke should be a good indication of what Indy should come out like. Out of all the little things that could go wrong, it's the eyes that worry me the most. The eyes seem to be the thing that SS really can't get a handle on. I can deal with their more basic paint jobs--less painting means less for them to screw up.

If you don't mind missing out on the exclusive "lit" Sankara stones, then I would definitely wait for in-hand pictures to make your final decision. There will definitely be regular, non-exclusive Indys available when he ships. Guaranteed. But they might sell out of the exclusives. If you can take that gamble, and you're really on the fence, then I would wait.

BTW, it's refreshing to see someone so excited about an Indy figure! It's been dead in this section of the forum for such a long time since the line went cold. And even with TOD Indy coming, there's only a small handful of us that are looking forward to it or even considering getting it! So it's great there are still some Indy fans around! Welcome, Van Damme! :duff

I am with you 100% on the minimal-paint-means-minimal-issues sentiment! I too would not mind one bit if that proved true.

To be honest, the 'exclusive' in this case holds no weight with me. I'm cool with potentially losing out on the extra set of stones; being new to SSC, I just wasn't sure as to how many of the 'regular' version they produce. If you're saying there'll be plenty of those once the exclusive sells out, then I'm ok waiting - thanks!!! (If the exclusive was something more substantial, i.e. different heads, the jacket/undamaged outfit, then sure, holding off would be a lot more difficult... but missing out on the stones potentially is no issue whatsoever.

Thanks, M.O.L.! I appreciate you guys taking the time to answer a first-timer's questions!! :) ...Now I just wish those damn production pics would surface already, jeez!!!

p.s. Is it too much to ask for 1/6 Bloodsport or Double Impact Van Damme figures?! I see Damtoy is putting out a crazy couple of Universal Soldier (1992) figures, and they look crazy! ... just wishing aloud...
