Bummer about the delay. But I have to say that I'm losing more and more faith in Sideshow. X-Wing Luke didn't turn out too bad, but now that I see that QMX was able to get a fantastic, HT level headsculpt, it really makes me wonder why Sideshow isn't pushing for that kind of high level quality.

Kudos to QMX for not settling for the inferior product that the original factory gave them and going the extra mile to find a better factory.

I don't want to be out of topic but can you post a photo of that QMX figure. Is that a X-wing Luke too? Totally missed that.
Can you post a photo in the X-wing Luke thread instead.Thanks.

Also, from what I know QMX did only a 1/6 scale figure of Malcolm Reynolds(Firefly) and that's a horrible figure.
It's been released for quite some time now and still have on stock, so it's not selling that well and had seen one up close too.

Medicom sculpt looks better...... shame..... cancelled ! So wanted this figure to work out, waited a year for this.... Life is too short :(

Really, are you sure Medicom's version is better?
Had PO'd this one so I'm asking.

Can anybody post a comparison of the headsculpt of Medicom, HT and SS when they gethave it in-hand? Thanks in advance.

This looks great. More Ford there than HT Solo. Better than the proto too.

What are you guys smoking?

Totally agree!:goodpost:

The figure only released recently, and comes packed with a second sculpt that was retooled and improved.

A few things pop out to me.

1. The blade has no shine
2. Again his right eye...??!!
3. How come his face is old and young at the same time? He got this john voight grandma mouth going on yet he also seems young. This is not ford.
4. The body....why not a rubber chest?

Are you asking those questions based on the photos online or you have a in-hand figure already?

Oh I see.Thanks.
I had PO'd it and backed out cause it's taking too long and never got interested again, also had no news till I saw on display while I was for a trip in HK.

Horrible headsculpt and the bag strap looks really crappy too. The only way to get a decent Indy is to build a custom figure using either the Inigou or MJ Choi sculpt. No-one else has even come close to capturing Ford's likeness.

Are you sure those headsculpts are better?
If somebody can have a comparison photo later on would be helpful.

I was chatting to one of the independent Hong Kong retailers who mentioned he gets a lot of enquiries regarding Indiana Jones headsculpts. There may be an affordable option of decent quality featuring a strong likeness in the offing later this year.

I don't want to be out of topic but can you post a photo of that QMX figure.

Here's a photo of the before and after Firefly Mal:

Just got mine, and all I have to say is kudos to Andy and QMX! They have really delivered with Mal.

The tailoring is great, and every little detail of his ensemble has been accounted for, right down to his dog tags.

And the sculpt...wow, what a pleasant surprise! The figure comes with the old sculpt attached to the figure, but ignore that and go straight for the new sculpt packaged between his legs. The difference is incredible! No casting distortion whatsoever, and the paint is seriously on par with Hot Toys, if not better because it doesn't have that "freckling" technique they (imo) overuse. Just a nice, natural, almost translucent skin tone. My pics below don't capture all the detail and realism packed into the paintjob, but you will all be impressed in hand.

Thank you, Andy, for taking the time to make this release so wonderful! You have made this Browncoat very happy. :)

I plan to take DSLR pics of the full figure as soon as I can. :duff

You can see the paint quality, details and even the overall shape and size improved. QMX deserves praise for seeing the original and rightly feeling it's not good enough, and then going out and finding another factory to do a better job. Like Kuat said, it only recently came out after long delays for obvious reasons.

I would go through the Mal thread, as well as the X-Wing Luke thread where there are plenty of in-hand photos.

To cancel or not to cancel, that is the question.

They've also bumped the shipping up to $31.61 from the usual $30.

Really?!? I haven't gotten an email. I wonder if Europe and Asia will be getting him sooner. Is that normal for you, Kuat, that you get Sideshow figures from Sideshow before the US does?

Still keeping my pre-order. Love the character too much to pass on him. If I was really smart and didn't mind possibly missing out on the exclusive glowing rocks, I'd just wait for him to go on sale for Spooktacular!

I took the hit on the $23 nrd and cancelled. I just couldn't stand making that last flexpay plus postage, customs and the FedEx handling fee for the final production piece. I'm going to wait until it's discounted, put some rp's to it and hope in the meantime someone produces a head that looks like Ford that doesn't cost me more than an entire figure.

It probably means they're shipping him to me direct from Hong Kong. That has generally become the norm now. That also means he'll cost less in VAT.

My last order from Sideshow (R5-D4) incurred no VAT or fees whatsoever. :naughty

I love TOD, and always wanted a TOD Indy. This is probably the closest we'll get for a while. Pretty sure the sculpt will look better in hand since it's not Luke X-Wing scary (who only looks fine with the helmet on).

Maybe the HT fedora will be a better fit?

It would be a bummer if he's still around by Spook, and with a big reduction. :lol

Yes, this one will probably hang around long enough to be eligible for the $50 international coupon code.

For me, this is a lot like Threepio... I actually like the majority of the figure, I'm sure the paint will disappoint in person, but from 4 feet away on the shelf, he'll probably look fine. Except the hat. Why is the hat so big??? I realize they want it to fit on his head, but it just looks too big. Just that one thing (for me). Like Threepio's thumbs... just one thing...

At least Sideshow have had the decency to replace the proto with the production piece pics on their site for the figure.

This is my custom Raiders of the Lost Ark Indy figure with the Inigou Customs headsculpt painted by Mark Simpson. It is a great headsculpt and miles better than the Sideshow effort, but it obviously doesn't come cheap!!image.jpegimage.jpeg
