It looks fantastic, great job Kamandi :rock

...sadly the whole point of cleaning mine up was so it'd be a better match when paired with shiny Tama 3PO, which I don't at this stage want to weather. I should seriously think about it though, they'd look so much better.

Looking really good so far...the added weathering on the dome appears to give it some much needed depth. Did you strip any of the factory weathering prior to adding yours?

As Piper said I used a torn up kitchen sponge and selectively dabbed away the factory "dirt". What I was left with was an effect that CG guys call specularity - The dome wasn't really different colors as much as it caught light with differing levels of shine depending what angle you viewed from.

The oil and turpenoid seems to have latched to some of that first layer and what you see in the pictures is now much closer to the real look.

It's looking great so far, can you share some information about your application methods?

Just make sure you stop before you get to this stage ;)

I can do better than just tell I'll show you. This is the video where I got the idea, I copied this method. If you watch all 6 of this guy's videos he does an awesome job weathering the Falcon:

That's a game changer right there. Looks great kamandi.

Thank you. Glad you dig it.

Looks miles better. :rock

He did. He was one of the first people to use alcohol, maybe the first to do it lightly with a sponge. Saved that original image and as of right now, this is the template for what I'd like to do to mine. :)

I have no secrets. Once you get started hit me with questions.

Threepio is going to be just as dirty when I get my mitts on him. Dune Sea desert dirty. (but maybe still with a silver leg)

I feel like I should take a moment and point out what I'm using is TURPENIOD, not turpenTINE. I don't know what turpentine will do to R2 so don't go finding out.

Turnpenoid is sold is hobby stores like Hobby Lobby and Michael's by the oil paints. Make sure you're buying the right stuff.

uploadfromtaptalk1424659815400.jpegthis is JazzInc's setup and the best looking 3PO hands down I think. Don't think he shared the weathering process unfortunately though.

so what is turnpenoid is a sand color or what colors do you need for ol threepo

Turpenoid is a thinner and brush cleaner. I used Odorless Turpenoid by Weber and it's the same stuff the guy in the Falcon videos used. It looks to be safe on plastic. My R2 hasn't melted. So far.

I haven't decided what oil paints I will use on Threepio. Trial and error. I'll let you know later.

Sooooo here we go again!
UPS has screwed me on delivery again!
They made an error sorting the package my replacement dome was in.
Now it's in East Bum***** New Jersey.
When asked will they be able to deliver it early the next day, instead of "by end of day"
They said no.
Way to fix your errors UPS!
I wish Sideshow used any other delivery company except UPS!

my stuff ships through fed-x I set that up way back then. i think it`s been about 5 or 6 years now I think

Got my replacement artoo body today from sideshow. Fixes the issues I had originally but now includes a couple of minor issues in other areas. Not worth me returning again though.

But thought I'd ask if anyone has worked out a decent way to remove the side legs without damaging the figure? I'd prefer to swap the legs on my replacement with the original ones! Any ideas?

Got my replacement dome today!
The projector works!
The other compartments are better on this version too.
I just have to destroy the other dome and send the pics to Sideshow.
I just have to figure out which e-mail to send them too.

Got my R2, very happy with it!
Have just been messing around a bit, so a quick question: the life-form scanner and auxiliary imaging system don't stay up firmly, do they? At least mine don't. Otherwise, everything seems to be working perfectly fine.
