Yes that's what I'm talking about too, the soft white rotary buffing heads. I'm sure they would be safe on some areas of the dome, as long as you stay away from the projector eyes and the opening doors. However, if it's polished by hand you have total control of rubbing direction, friction and speed. I know it sounds like I'm doing it the hard way, but I'm getting a very good result with no fear of anything going wrong.
I think I will use the Dremel buffer to polish the blue 'neck ring' though.

I'd like to see pictures of Anthrapoid's polished dome.

Don't worry man! You polish that dome to your heart's content. It's a perfectly normal part of life.
(At least thats what my parents taught me) :naughty:eek:

Two different cast members from Boogie Nights... this thread is getting too weird. (unless someone posts a pic of Heather Graham, then it's ok.)

R2D2!!!!!!!!!!!!

... I added some color gels to the light system, and it's a vast improvement. I managed to remove the underside of the dome without too much fuss. The hardest part was getting the three screws to unlock... ARRRGGG! After that was done, it was a simple matter to tape some colored paper in front of the flashing LEDs. They were WAY too bright, (except the projector eye, which is fine as-is.) I made the white LEDs in the front blue, (the two small squares, one above the other) and the rear horizontal rectangular quad-light green with some pin holes to simulate tiny white lights mixed in. I put a layer of white paper over the larger rear round light to lower its brightness a bit. Everything looks great, except the main front light... The super-bright red and blue drives me nuts, so later I'll replace it with half solid red on the left, and a patch of blue-purple on the right, or maybe a color-changing LED. I'll install a vertical partition between them. Photos later...

Didn't you say you modded the Taito with lights and paint as well? Picture comparison please.

Yes I did, and I like the lights in my Taito more than the stock lights in the SS. I used a pair of color-changing LEDs in the Taito, and the gradual cycling from one color to the next looks good in the subtle way I used them.
I have the SS R2 taken apart again right now, trying to figure out if I can replace the red/blue eye alone, or if I might even scrap the whole light system and install a new full set. I can post side-by-side pictures later, but it really won't do justice to the lights. I'll try to do a video instead and post it on Youtube in a few days.

Just got my R2 and the dome arrived defective - sensor antenna was no longer spring-loaded and the socket piece came unglued and fell into the dome head. Is this figure plagued with QC issues or not that common?

Read through the thread and guess I should've done my research. I'm gonna return instead of exchange this figure in spite of the great price I got for it, the build quality on it is just VERY lacking compared to the other SSC figures I have.

i couldn't understand that. Why doesn't it come out? is it supposed to?

They most likely kept it short because that was the only way to store it inside the head. They probably thought most people would prefer to have another cool pop-out feature over an accurate looking life sensor or periscope.

Unfortunately I'm one of those SW nerds that would much rather have the accuracy. :D
