I decided to pass on this figure. In the end its just like a man in a ****….a prop!! I might use this money to pick up the GI Joe "Joe Colton”. Use the second “casual" outfit from Barney Ross Expendables 2 and create a generic “action star” Bruce Willis figure. Thinking about it!!

They most likely kept it short because that was the only way to store it inside the head. They probably thought most people would prefer to have another cool pop-out feature over an accurate looking life sensor or periscope.

Unfortunately I'm one of those SW nerds that would much rather have the accuracy. :D

I'm in agreement that it could have been done better. But if they ditched the current method I'm not sure how they would have pulled it off exactly.
If they made the scanner and periscope like the arm pieces where you insert them (but they're a static length) that could have worked well for the scanner. Open the hatch and then insert a long scanner.
Not sure about that for the periscope though. Since the blue panel is part of that, would there be a placeholder for when the periscope is down and a separate long arm for when it's up? You would probably have to use the magnet lightsaber to remove the placeholder like you have to do with the small piece in the Kenobi table.
With the current system it seems like they ran out of room in the body to make the scanner and periscope long enough. Probably due in large part to the space lost from the retractable leg--the interiors seen when opening the panels, and however the legs insert must take up some needed room too. Probably would have needed a telescoping periscope and scanner to have worked properly.
Ultimately what is lost is the sensation that some of these items are actually a part of R2 and can be seen returning in to his dome and replacing them with what looks clearly more accurate when on display. I'd probably go with accurate too given how fragile the scanner and periscope were made in the end.

The periscope's length I'm actually ok with the way it is, since we never really got a great look at it deployed anyway (except in some separate closeups). But the life sensor we did get a great look at in relation to the rest of R2, and it was clearly so much longer than the Sideshow version.

I received mine today, he found his place with Attakus Sergeant Sandtrooper and his friend :lol

I finally got this figure and the paint really leaves me underwhelmed. Scale is nice, lights are great, but he needs an enamel finish. I just got an airbrush, so maybe I will give it a shot. Medicom did a much better job. Wish the Tamashii has happened even at twice the cost.

Wow all these pics are great! especially with 3PO! nice pics fellow freaks!

Got mine in this week, snapped a few quick pics today. Mine had one issue, the projector light is stuck in one position. I suspect from dried paint. Not a deal breaker for me. Still happy with him, but I should have just bought him loose...not going to use the accessories.

Here is my contribution. Straight out of the box and unmodified. I know I'll probably get flamed for putting him with prequel characters....ha

Wow I actually found a rare picture of a unmodified straight out of the box R2. Thank you, great pics. Looks awesome with Anakin and Obi.

I will concur with everyone here that the quality of this figure is shoddy in the fact that when you handle it, it feels super cheap. Pure looks alone though, Im completely satisfied and I love him with my Bandai 3PO

You can also enter "shippingmagic" for free shipping. And they take PayPal. But they block Canadian PayPal accounts even when using only US dollar balance and shipping to the US, which is why I didn't just complete an order. Th total would have been $122 and change (there's about $10 in NY tax) Sideshow is about $145 after $20 coupon. With rewards ($6.45) it's an effective$138 - no tax outside California - expect state tax for Disney store no matter what state you're in.

Just bought a second one, too good a deal. I'm curious to see if some parts are better on the second one (one door doesn't sit flush, the tiny opening panel looks like it has a chipped corner) and since I bought the exclusive and think the extra arms are not all that exciting I could probably sell that off and get my original investment back.

I bought two at full price, one regular and one exclusive. Now is'nt my face red.
