The price on this is actually reasonable, I might actually get it as a Christmas present for someone other than myself this year, or actually afford two!

Seems like the Medi 3PO would look quit decent with this R2 then. Should look better together than with the Tamashii.

But Medicom C3PO is shorter than Luke when you put them together...

I am not a perfectionist when it comes to action figures, but to me they have to look how I remember the characters in the movie.

So with that... I have the Tamashii C-3PO and I love the figure, it looks like I remember C-3PO in Star Wars (1977) when I was 7 years old.

This R2-D2 is pretty screen accurate to me, I will barely use the lights and pose it on my home office desk next to 3PO and leave it.

I have been trying to read the previous posts, but... will this R2 at least come to my 3PO's waist?

The R2 in the picture above my post looks too small/short. Will this new R2 be taller than that? If yes, I will be happy.

Final question, do you think I really need to pre-order? I was able to get Boba-Fett, 3PO and Vader without a pre-order on Sideshow. So, I probably just answered my own question.

I can't see the regular selling out prior to release. The EX will depend on the edition size they decide on.

Yes. And that's why I've said that this new R2 will not fit in scale with any existing Sideshow or Hot Toys Star Wars figures. But it won't be as bad as that tiny Medi R2. C3PO's height on wookiepedia is 1.67m versus Luke's 1.72m. Definitely not accurate to the movie, but the numbers had to come from somewhere. To me, the whole thing is puzzling, because as a designer, I just find scale second nature and as a product management/development type, I'd never let miscalled designs through the pipeline.

The R2 in that photo would fit inside a correctly scaled R2 like a Russian nesting doll. ;)

Anyway, the new R2 looks phenomenal, including the paint app. As others have said, hopefully the seam on the dome is sanded off as it cheapens the appearance significantly. It's a shame he's not taller, but it'll still be the best R2 around near 1/6 scale. Hopefully they knock 3PO out of the park later in the year, as I think there's a lot of room for improvement versus the Tamashii version - at the same time I can already see all the potential quality control issues and broken parts messages. Remember Vaders tusks? ;) The huge mystery now is how tall will 3PO be?

I do plan to pose the droids together and neither along side any other characters. Both wired to the rest of the shelf lighting so R2 can be lighting up the Leia hologram all the time.

Although i wished R2 was at least 7 1/2 inches tall i guess close to &" is better than nothing which basically makes him 1/4" taller than hasbro.
It has everything else i want from R2 So i pre-ordered him. Let's hope the bad blood with temashi might promt sideshow to release a c3p0. and actually to get luke at a right height you could always put him on the hot toys slim body since mark is only 8" taller than carrie.

I might repaint my taito clock for posing and use this r2 for specific scenery photo's

Pretty sure the Medicom R2 is 6.1", whereas the SS R2 will be 6.75". If that height makes it through to production, then the Tamashii 3PO and SS R2 together will look absolutely acceptable, scale-wise, to 95% of people. If you're ok with SS Deluxe Vader's height alongside other figures, you'll be ok with R2's height.

C-3PO is all but confirmed by Sideshow themselves.

I'm petty sure that even the Medicom R2 next to Tamashii 3PO is acceptable to 95% of people, so that's not saying much. ;) I'm positive that none of my friends nor my wife would ever notice anything wrong. But I suppose they'd probably not blink if they saw the Hasbro Electronic R2 in there either. To me, the Medi R2 looks way too small next to even the small Medi C3PO. I'm sure he'd look small next to the upcoming Tyrion Lannister from 3Zero.

Noooooooo, surely not :lol The medicom R2 is universally derided, here at least, to the point where - despite its superior detailing and paint - most folks opt for a clock. I doubt people will be keeping their clock in their displays once sideshow's arrives.

Thanks! Sounds great...

You know what then... don't buy him. We know.. we get it... you think he is too small you don't have to post it 100 more times.

If Threepio is reasonably priced like R2 then I'll be happy to buy it also. It's hard to imagine C-3PO having many accessories (although I could hope for the Falcon's Nav Computer Console)
