Damn. No updates today on my UPS shipment, looks like I'll actually have to wait until tomorrow.

R5-D4 arrived this morning, but he's got a broken door so he'll be getting exchanged. If you've got R2-D2, you know what to expect with this guy. He's light and rickety-feeling with doors that refuse to stay closed.

Is it actually broken or just pulled out of the sockets?

The panels can be pulled out and plugged back in, as I did with one to reset the angle so that it shut flush.

I found I just needed to 'futz' the doors, and they all look perfect, sitting exactly where they should. They were also a tighter fit than on Artoo.

Sweet, I never new those were camera lenses... love learning new things about Star Wars :rock :rock :rock

There really is so much to discover! You never stop learning. :)

And like that the love fest that is R5 has come to an end... :lol

My Arfive looks so stunning I'd place him as Sideshow's best figure evah. :yess:

But, knowing Sideshow's dodgy quality control, it's completely understandable that opinions on that matter will vary greatly as more people receive theirs.

Is the cream/off-white paint the same for everyone, or do some people have a normal white closer to R2?

It may not be screen accurate, but I don't mind the off-white at all - works well with the warm red parts.

It's really a very nice figure.:clap

The difference between them might be accurate:

Artoo's weathering looks more oily (or carbon scored!), whereas Arfive gives the impression of being ingrained with sand.

Kuat, without the lights on R2 looks like such a dud next to the new fabulous R5. The hologram pattern reminds me of a disco ball.

Honestly, if Luke saw those two side by side I think he'd say "Uncle Owen, I wanna keep this one. I can just fix the motivator."

Received R5 today in the tiniest of boxes, I actually laughed out loud when I saw it. Can't really improve much on what everyone has said but I do like this guy and think he's a great addition to the collection. Great detail and weathering as well. I got a close up of R2 and R5, in real sun light, next to each other to try to determine if R5 is more "cream" colored but I just cannot tell - they look pretty close to the same color to me.

It's hard to really say for sure (the pics below are a mix) but I think in that pic it's just because he's tilted in three leg mode so facing skyward and also rolling out into brighter/yellower daylight, whereas R2 is more in shadow and in two leg mode. I guess how it looks on the TV screen is the final word - we might have a blue vs. brown debate here.:lol

I remember just a regular white, similar to R2 - but as a figure side-by-side with SSC R2, the warmer off-white with the red color scheme looks better. R2's looks more dull.

Very nice. I originally cancelled R5 (just too many things to be spending another $150) but am currently waiting on a new coupon code to reorder after these pics.:tap I really don't mind the lighter weathering. R5 always seems to be overweathered on some of the customs I've seen.

After seeing R2, R5 and Threepio together, I'm glad I did not cancel R5, but now I must save up to get threepio!!!!

Mine shipped today and should arrive on Friday. :yess:

I'm P***ed I cancelled mine (with coupon too :gah:.) Would probably have in-hand by now. I cancelled the TIE Pilot too, but this one looks really, really good.:(

Got mine last night and had a chance to snap some pics and write up a quick review.

Review: Sideshow Collectibles Star Wars R5-D4 Sixth-Scale Figure « Pop Critica | Pop Critica

I actually like R5 more than I thought I would and even though there are pretty significant differences between production and proto paint apps, it's not detrimental to the overall figure. One thing I didn't mention in my review that I know a lot of you will appreciate is that Sideshow tightened up the ankle joints on R5 and they're nowhere near as loose as they are on their R2-D2.
