OUCH. :monkey1

Yeah... I went there. :monkey3

God, why'd you have to go and do that! :lol

I've begun to get A LOT choosier with my 1/6 purchases, partly because of space but money is also a factor too. While I think the outfit and accessories here are great (aside from the glasses) the main head is a little lackluster especially in comparison to the proto. Although I might get him down the line on second chance or something I've since canceled my ex. Toht in favor of other products and Indiana Jones will be represented by just Indy. I've got high hopes that papa Jones will be better... :angelsmil

HT makes great figures and I think SS doe as well overall. I like both and buy what I can afford/like from both. Toht looks great on my shelf for what its worth.

Oh god. I am so so sorry. I didn't mean to turn this into another SS vs. HT debate. Please forgive me.

I'm glad I passed on this. It really does look like a Hasbro sculpt but they sure aren't selling it at a Hasbro price.

All true it has not the Hot Toys quality and the price seems high, but to say it is a disaster is exagerated I think.

With a little help it can be saved and it will most likely be the only Toht figure we will see for now.

I for one still look forward to see it on the shelve :)

I think this figure will grow on people on the shelf. With some paint touch-ups matching the head to neck and especially fixing those eyebrows, I think the face will look great. You shouldn't have to do all that, nor replace the glasses, but it seems that most SS pieces need some customization to get them just right.

Of course, the success or failure of the ark will be the final straw for many.

Yep if the ark hasn't been fixed in any way, it'll mean all this time was because they had some production error. So you can defiantely deal me out if thats the case, I'm not going to risk a shoddy ark.

But I am still looking forward to having it displayed with the melty head, a decision I didn't make until I saw that final sculpt with the typical sun burn paint job.

Sideshow, your 1/6 prices are slowly climbing higher and higher but your quality is the same. Just charge us $150 already and hand paint the damn things.

That's the biggest problem I have with Sideshow stuff - I've been following the company for years and there really doesn't seem to be much change in the quality/realism of the paintwork. I know the Godfather is more expensive, so we should expect a better product, but when you look at where Hot Toys was a couple of years ago compared to now, you can see a HUGE improvement in terms of realism, and a moderate increase in price. Sideshow a couple of years ago looked, in terms of realism, about the same, and we've seen a 50% - 100% increase in price.

That's exactly what I was thinking when that Godfather vs. Toht comparison was posted. I mean, Hot Toys made some crap figures when they first started. That Terminator that they didn't have likeness rights for, the George Lucas "Director" figure. That was Hot Toys. That was only a few years ago, too!!

I am strongly considering canceling Toht, regardless if the Ark turns out well or not. Hot Toys is just making too much good stuff to be bothered collecting figures that are sub-par.

I already spent $7 on replacement glasses. And to get a repaint on his head. . .it'd be MORE expensive than a Hot Toys figure.

you Can't compare those photos of the Don and Toht... for one thing, Toht picture was with a flash, and the HT head has good lighting. That makes a BIG difference. (hell, I've taken pictures of my customs with a flash before and they look HIDEOUS :lol )

second... when Sideshow figures cost £150 like the HT stuff? THEN you can compare them lol. They're different markets, and different price ranges.

Well, yes and no. For $50 a couple of years ago, Sideshow gave us this:

At double the price they're now giving us this:

Call me crazy, but I'm not seeing a HUGE improvement in paint quality.

Now a couple of years ago, for about $85, Hot Toys gave us this:

For less than double the price we're now getting this:

Hot Toys have progressed in quality by leaps and bounds, the main thing that has progressed with Sideshow has been their prices.

(Pics and prices from Michael Crawford's site)

Still comparing HT to SS isn't really all that fair. If the price ranges were identical, that'd be one thing, but they're not. Add a custom paint job to your head and you'll be on par with HT price-wise anyway, so that comparison's largely irrelevant.

The fact remains that Sideshow's prices are growing by leaps and bounds but the only improvements they have to show for it are a better body. Which, honestly, I would trade for better paintjobs. Who cares if you can pose the figure, if it only bares a passing resemblance to who it's supposed to be.

Nobody cancels a figure because it's on a Buck, people cancel because the paint job sucks, or there's weird squiggly lines on a shirt when they should be pinstripes.

The masses who drop $180 on Medicom figures for starters. Bottom line is it's all down to personal taste. Belloq sucked as a likeness but I picked him up anyway for both the exclusive and for the character he represents. But still, the fact you're ignoring, even with the price hike, Sideshow's products are still considerably less expensive than HT's. With all the HT stuff I have on order, I could easily cancel and fund exclusively Sideshow products for the next two years. Then you have the argument about HT's choice of rubber and their weak wrist pegs. Should those be problems a collector faces at $150-$180 a figure?! Every company has their issues. It's personal taste as to whether or not you choose to pick it up. I bought Toht because I love Indy and love 1:6. I have absolutely no interest in Medicom's handfull of figures and I don't see any other company (including Medi) producing any more Indy figures.
