I actually don't think the paint job looks all that great compared to the proto but need to see more pictures to tell. I wonder how the pistons will hold up through shipping for most customers.

Really on the fence about any more Bounty Hunters. I waited so many years for them I pretty much lost interest, hoping some pictures will reignite that desire.

Thanks for the picture. Eager to add a bounty hunter to the shelf. Its been too long of a time.

Looks gorgeous! Thanks for posting, momaw! The only thing I question is the belly wires. The real costume isn't that simple, is it?

I think so:

Ordered. Looks great to me....gonna repaint the belly wires a tad brighter and add a little black wash to the head, but other than that, he's good to go

Real version looks a little more bright silver/defined vs the dark gray-silver on the Sideshow figure, but seems like the figure came out pretty well.

Congrats, momaw! What are your overall impressions?

Wow, great photo review, Momaw!:clap

It came out very nice overall and will be a nice addition to the BH line-up. I like the level of detail they went to in the headsculpt, and the fact there's now a fully articulated 4-LOM - who would have thought?! Will try to grab this further down the line if I can get it closer to $170 - the reg prices are just a bit too high for a set of these guys.

I do think the paint is a slight letdown. If you look at the character onscreen, the orange is all-over dust/dirt weathering like what a Sandie has, not a wash just in the crevices the way SSC has done it. It makes the figure look a bit more dark/dull than the character actually is, and gives it that "orange pinstripe suit" look. Versus the actual costume, the ultra-green eyes I guess are an artistic improvement (it looks cool and alien) but the belly wires area wasn't matched very well - there should be more wires and much brighter silver. It could just be the lighting but I also wish the head looked a bit more different/silver versus the body - them seem pretty similar when it's supposed to be shiny silver versus dull metal.

The sculpted chest area is fine, but you can see Sideshow's standard "no more effort or cost to make it accurate but we'll make it wrong anyway" approach in the sculpted plates on the upper chest - they look fine, but the actual shapes are wrong versus the costume. It's the only change they had to do their 3PO body - and it's a bit off. The red line/emblem is fine - but side-by-side with the costume, it should be bigger, further down and the shape is a bit off.

It's a very nice fig and Ht will never do it, but the Sideshow "kinda right" thing always bugs me at this pricepoint. While HT definitely gets things wrong from time to time too, it's more an occasional oversight. If you look at HT's snowtrooper you can see a real eye for fine detail - people poring over ref pics. SSC just doesn't seem to ever do that.

The weathering should be fairly easy to add on with some tamiya weather master rust

Thanks and that's a pretty good summary of the figure, although the eyes aren't that bright. That was me shining a light on them. I'm sure more patient collectors will get this at least $50 off at some point probably with free US shipping.

I know some are also totally dismissive of this figure for a number of reasons ranging from its SS not HT dummy spits, too expensive for what you get, just a periphery character so not needed. All of these are valid for those collectors. If you just want your figures to stand on a shelf and be self contained works of art, this fig might not be for you unless you have a love of the character or interest in those minor star wars background characters. I enjoy building scenes, recreations in my home of what's seen on screen (that's why it'll always be a blue coat on my Han :monkey3). As such a figure like this is just as important as the environment, for example a Jazzinc one, as it really helps complete that picture. Plus I love the background characters of the OT, well mainly ANH and ESB.

As to my opinion of this actual figure, if you have experienced SS's 3PO you have a basic knowledge of what you're getting. Although the pistons do seem less delicate and it has a greater range of motion in the arms and hips than my 3PO does (not a guarantee as my 3PO might just be stiffer and me too scared of breaking him to push it). I was worried while changing the hands as they are a pain. The pegs stayed in the arms so I had to remove the pegs from the spare hands to swap (which were in really tight). Then putting them on was also a tight fit so I was concerned I'd break the pistons trying the grip the arms strongly enough to get the hands on. Luckily the protruding points on the knuckles are rubber other wise they would be broken by now. As Talibane points out the paint does lead to it looking dark unless well lit and isn't screen accurate, but its serviceable. The head is very well sculpted and I like it quite a bit albeit wrong coloured. I personally don't see HT doing this for many years, if at all. I'm happy with him, but I'm glad I had a $50 voucher for zuckass cause I'm not quite feeling that figure yet. If they achieve the prototype with Dengar than he will be fantastic.

Spoke to SS and apparently this order is not shipping from HK to me. I really hope this is just a onetime thing, otherwise it's back to local retailers for me.
