So --

I like it, quite a bit in fact; the sculpt is very impressive in person and the paint didn't disappoint. The gore factor may be a bit much (which is actually a nit of mine); I understand that these two are in the throws of battle, but for my tastes it is overdone. The piece comes all attached as one sculpt and then the Triceratops' foot attaches to the base. The exclusive is all one piece, and painted nicely as well.

A good first shot SS, you have my attention.

Great pics looks really awesome to me. :rock The gore is a bit much for my taste as well. Not that I think it should have less necessarily, its just a bit more than I like. But that's good, makes it an easier pass.

I would agree about the gore, it's one of the first things I noticed. When I saw the T-Rex teeth, I thought of that dude from 30 days of night. Still looks good, but I don't think a dinosaur display need to be gory for it to still look realistic.

Given the wounds I think its about the right amount of gore. The Rex took a bite out of the Tri, his teeth are going to be pretty bloody.

NICE! This came out looking great. I can't wait to see pics of the Carnotaurus and Rex, and hopefully, those will be just as nice. :D

It really is par for the course with SS, they usually up the ante whenever possible in the gore category.

I got a nice low #, 25; all-in-all I'm happy with it, and more importantly my sons are -- it's for their room.

Yeah these look pretty slick. So SSC dropped JP but are still using the Stan Winston/Crash style dinosaurs? Why buy the license when you get the milk for free?:lol

It is DEFINATELY a huge step beyond the JP dio, both in sculpt and esp the paint! :clap The only thing that took me a bit of getting used to was the excessive amount of gore on the teeth/etc.

I'm encouraged to hear how nice the paint job turned out; it can only mean this line's off to a promising start (fingers crossed) and that SS took notes about earlier qc snafus in the JP line.

Actually didn't order this one, mainly because of the gore factor but more out of personal aesthetics than a denial of its plausibility. If you look at pics or videos of lions or other top predators in nature hunting and feasting, its not exactly for the squeamish. This is a great piece nonetheless.

I've received the dio it looks great, the paint apps are not as great as it's displayed but its good, refering to the gore I am not crazy about it either but when animals fight it does get pretty nasty therefore it makes sense, the detail and the dynamic pose is outstanding.

Looks great. I had to change mine to flexpay so got to wait 3 months for mine :(.

I would have to judge after seeing in person, but the blood/gore looks plausible. You only have to watch enough docs of hunting and fighting to see it can get pretty messy.

Looks great! Should be a ton more pics in the next few days as it arrives on a few more door steps. The paint apps seem a lot better than the JP stuff... Got my hopes up for the T-Rex now.

^^ CANBERRAN! :D

Wonderful. And I have to say, the increased level of gore from the preview pics actually impresses me a bit more (can't wait to see my own in person). T.rex was capable of excising well over one hundred pounds of flesh in a single bite, and with that wound on the T.horridus' tail, nevermind the copious amount of other injuries T.rex appears to have inflicted upon the beast, the gore pleases me... as well as the increased blood from the T.rex being impaled in its underbelly. Anyone who has ever seen a recent trauma to the abdominal region knows that the amount of blood is PROFUSE and very quick to flow. If the Trike spears the T.rex and is pushing its horn through as the two engage in their dance of death, it wouldn't be outlandish for a large portion of the Triceratops' skull to be coated with blood. If that sense, the amount of blood SS used from that injury is conservative, even if it may appear not to be ostensibly. I'm very, very pleased with what I'm seeing.

The designs are far from SWS and Crash's designs, and for that part they are actually more paleontologically accurate. I adore the JP dinos and they are extremely distinct, but these are more in line with what we know the creatures to have looked like.

I just relooked at the pics again and I have to say that the paint apps on the dinos is very impressive as well. This turned out to be a very nice piece and I have no doubt the next two will as well. :rock

How do you post pics, I am kind of new to this

Host them free online with, say, photobucket, and then upload them in the reply window by clicking the small image that looks like a picture frame of a mountain with a sun hanging in the sky above.

I feel the same way. I can't wait to have this one in-hand to look at some of the finer details with closer scrutiny. It's been my experience that, even though I adore the dio in the pics, pictures can be deceptive. Soon enough! :rock

That's precisely the point, and the reason I enjoy this piece so much more. I still remember seeing a juvenile giraffe taken down by a lion pride in some film clips taken by field biologists. One female held the giraffe's muzzle, another two the neck; the female lowermost on the neck had pinned one of the juvenile's flailing legs with her weights, latched on with her foreclaws, and was kicking vigorously with her back legs. Within seconds, the entire screen became awash with vermillion. The lioness kicking with her legs had used her hind claws to eviscerate the giraffe; the giraffe and the lioness' hindquarters were thoroughly covered in blood almost instantaneously. While brutal, it's extremely informative of nature's tendency to be red in tooth and claw and SS appears to have been faithful to that reality.
