What the ****, the only thing you can order with the gift cards are a bunch of junk noone wants. They wont let you use the giftcard to order anything even remotely good, and no pre-orders.

This company continues to amaze me with their shady business practices - manipulation of soldout status to create false urgency, refuse to disclose edition sizes even with deposit requirement, secret international editions after popular figures soldout, and now this.

Who does this stuff...

So you are going to complain about them giving you gift card? If you don't want it, I'm sure someone else would appreciate it because unlike you, there are many people who would like many of the pieces they have eligible for gift cards.

Sideshow also gives reward parts for all your purchases - those you can use on pre-orders and anything else. I'd say they give a lot...look at Spooktacular and their Fan appreciation week - now tell me how many other companies out there give out thousands and thousands of dollars worth of merchandise to their fans?

What's "good" is subjective, there's a bunch of statues on the gift card list now that I'd like to get. Since they give out gift cards for free it's not like you're out anything other than 2 minutes browsing the gift card eligible inventory.

As for "now this"....they've been doing this for years? It's not new.

:exactly:

Besides, it's pretty smart sales tactic to get rid of items you have a lot of. No one is forcing you to use the FREE giftcard, if you paid for it I would understand your gripe.

Sideshow is very generous (monthly giveaways, Rewards Points, FREE gift cards, etc). Also, I have no problems with the pre-order/sold-out/edition size issues you speak of. But being in Canada I am a bit choked about not getting the Exclusive Jack Sparrow HT...but that isn't their fault, Hot Toys makes those calls!!

Re: sideshow gift cards are garbage

My only complaint about gift cards in general is they don't offer these to BUY. My family and friends know that 80% of my disposable income goes to Sideshow. Without fail, every Christmas and Birthday pass and family members who insist on buying gifts still tell me, "I tried to buy you a Sideshow Gift card but they don't sell them"

Thats money in the bank Sideshow is losing out on. It baffles me as savvy as they are they cannot implement a gift card.

I even pitched them a marketing and implementation strategy via email. They complemented my ideas but said they are not set up to do them at this time.

They need to offer normal gift cards for sale via the website. You CAN use them on in stock and pre-order merch. In the event of an NRD it would work the same way, the NRD is charged to the BALANCE of the card, money they already have from whoever bought the card. Same as everything else, you cancel the preorder you lose that amount off your gift card.

I also suggested they set up a shopping cart that allows for multiple forms of payment. Say you get a $100 gift card from someone. You set it up where $100 goes to the balance of the statue and the rest gets charged to your debit or credit. Any amount applied to your purchase in the gift card is put on hold and cannot be used for other purchases. Sometimes around the Holidays someone may flip me a $50 AMEX prepaid debit card, that I would LOVE to use towards a SS purchase but I can't, so they lose that money also.

The email was a lot more in depth and offered some solutions to implementation issues.

Oh well, I tried! :)
