Re: sideshow gift cards are garbage

I bought the Avatar AMP Suit Maquette, $1200, and used about $250 worth of Reward Points on it. But received 0 reward points for this massive purchase. Had I bought it ordinarily, I'd have made $60 worth of reward points, but I got none of that, so my saving of $250 was really only worth $190 :(

I look at it as if you use a buy 10 get one free card at a fast food place you don't get another punch for getting the free one so why should you get rewards points on something you bought with reward points.

And the cards are not garbage to me.. they are fun to collect. :)

My only complaint about gift cards in general is they don't offer these to BUY. My family and friends know that 80% of my disposable income goes to Sideshow. Without fail, every Christmas and Birthday pass and family members who insist on buying gifts still tell me, "I tried to buy you a Sideshow Gift card but they don't sell them"

:exactly: :goodpost:

I remember a couple of years ago when they allowed you to combine cards for something...either a Fantacular or a Spook, now that was awesome. I had a couple of $10s and a $20 that took a nice amount off of my order.

Sure would be nice to bring that back for Spook this year...

Yes true about the "Buy 10 get 1 free" notion. And I'd agree that you shouldn't get Reward Points for the value you used reward points on, but to not give you any for the balance either? That seems stingey.

If we were to put it into the analogy of a book store, where you buy 10 and get one free, if you came in to claim your free book and also bought another one that day, then you would expect that the other one that you parted with your money over, should count towards your next 10. But under the current reward points system at SS, you forfeit any reward points for the entire value of the item, even if your points only covered a small percentage of it.

I guess the lesson here is merely to make sure that if you use reward points try and use enough to buy the item outright using only reward points, rather than covering the remainder with cash, that won't count towards more points.

I've picked up several SS gift cards over the years, but they've never had anything 'eligible' that I've ever wanted. So while they are nice to get, they have been useless to me so far.

Thats money in the bank Sideshow is losing out on. It baffles me as savvy as they are they cannot implement a gift card.

I even pitched them a marketing and implementation strategy via email. They complemented my ideas but said they are not set up to do them at this time.

They need to offer normal gift cards for sale via the website. You CAN use them on in stock and pre-order merch. In the event of an NRD it would work the same way, the NRD is charged to the BALANCE of the card, money they already have from whoever bought the card. Same as everything else, you cancel the preorder you lose that amount off your gift card.

I also suggested they set up a shopping cart that allows for multiple forms of payment. Say you get a $100 gift card from someone. You set it up where $100 goes to the balance of the statue and the rest gets charged to your debit or credit. Any amount applied to your purchase in the gift card is put on hold and cannot be used for other purchases. Sometimes around the Holidays someone may flip me a $50 AMEX prepaid debit card, that I would LOVE to use towards a SS purchase but I can't, so they lose that money also.

The email was a lot more in depth and offered some solutions to implementation issues.

Oh well, I tried! :)

That's a good idea - but like you say, it would have to be a TRUE gift card (i.e. applicable to anything in the store, not just "the list") if that were the case.

Just call the current ones "bonus cards" or something.
