I remembered this post from the HT Han thread:

Yeah, it probably looks better with a head turn. It has decent amount of HF (I still think more so than the HT, but don't have that one in-hand yet) but definitely has issues - a little cartoony and slightly funky eyes but the skintone being the one that throws things for me.

Yeah unfortunately I have to agree. I'm a huge fan of Trevor's work, but this sculpt just didn't get translated very well at all with the cut out eyes and bad skin tone (and the hair is frankly a bit too cartoonish as well).

I was originally considering making a casting of mine so I could resculpt the eyes to how they were in the promo pics, but by this point I think I'll just wait for the HT figure instead. And just use the current figure as a placeholder.

I'm still hoping to see someone repaint this Solo to make it pop. I don't really have a use for the un-hatted head, so maybe I'll commission a repaint myself in the future. I have no concern with the eyes in hand or on the shelf.

Here are full profile shots, taken with the flash on.

The first (left side profile) is what I settled on for display as it seems the most favourable angle.

This figure is still one of my favorites, but I only like the hatted version, and dig it with the hood up or hood down. I added real fur to the hood though, which I think improved the figure substantially and swapped the body with Hoth Luke as that one is taller and makes them look better side by side. For me, this figure holds its own next to Bespin Luke on my shelf--I prefer the likeness and the outfit overall. Under close inspection the Bespin Luke headsculpt is of nicer quality and better skin tone, but on the detolf with lights above it looks very nice and seems to bring out some subtle skin tone variation.

I'm probably going to have to make some shelf space with all upcoming figures and if anything Bespin Luke (or at least one of them) will get the axe over either of the Hoth figures.

I ended up selling off the exclusive sculpt as every time I put it on the figure I took it off after about 10 minutes, just did absolutely nothing for me (I prefer the Luke hair sculpt to this one). The expression actually looks kind of like davejames's avatar.

Not for that tutorial, but I'll post a couple more photos of the finished versions. My stitch work is crap.

Wasn't patient enough to take photos and stitch at the same time. I'll post a couple photos of the two jackets though.

Here's a shot of the latest brown coat version I did and the poor stitching (though I think if I darken it a bit it'll blend in). It's a dark brown thread but it pulls in some of the fur with each stitch so it looks lighter. Not like it's ever really visible though.

And the final blue version (I prefer the blue for hood up and brown for down).

Just got a conversion on blue coat Han. Shipping out tomorrow. Wish I didn't drag the feet on it but at least I as able to secure one. Seems to be the version to have from the two. Appears Blue wins by the court of public opinion. :lol Now off to find a HT head for conversion.

It would be nice to know if Sideshow made an equal amount of brown vs. blue as a true sample.
