Kenner made it blue because it looked blue, as above.

Props are a means to an end. The old George Reeves Superman outfit was grey and brown. Captain Kirk's shirt was noticeably different that what is accepted as the Command colour for the 23rd century.

I'll pass on the turd brown thanks.

I even cropped out the background, and it still looks blue.

I think people let their 90's Hasbro figures influence their perception. This was never an issue in the 80's.

You might want to go have that looked into, because here is what the colour in that picture averages out to using a large sample analysis (I opened up the colour picker to show the colour selected better):

Another user got similar results during the last round.

No matter what the prop was, the filters they used in filming made it blue on screen.

I was 100% sure it was blue. Yes i owned the Kenner figure but that had nothing to do with it. Then Sideshow announced their version and showed a picture of the original prop a which is brown last year but i still didn't believe it so i looked at it on my Blu-ray in ultra HD and sure enough it really is brown.

It looks more blue in the outdoor scenes but inside you can definitely see the brown better. With the prop picture, what Sideshow have said and what my own eyes saw in the Echo Base scenes i'm 100% sure it was brown.

Personally i believe that it was made of real chameleons and changed color but that's just me.

I guess it boils down to personal preference.

Personally, blue looks better, but brown feels more accurate.

No kidding, absolute agreement. Some folks need to adjust their monitors or do testing for color blindness.

No, they genuinely change color depending on the lighting.
