I wouldn't call the HT vs SSC stormies night and day differences - the snowie is a major improvement though. Side by side, the HT and SSC stormie helmets are actually quite similar looking - both equally inaccurate (the reason so many are buying the custom 1/6 "stunt" helmet for use on their HT stormie.)

The HT stormie is definitely a superior figure, but the improvements HT made in the stormies were most in the bodies and maybe finish, not accuracy (though the SSC codpiece was pretty notoriously inaccurate.) I never had the SSC ones, but they look pretty similar to the Ht side-by-side.

Yeah, HT Stormies are not accurate 1/6 ANH stunts but they are indeed, overall, a day vs night improvement over SSC. Almost every piece of the armor is better shaped (not only the codpiece...I'll add at least the shoulder bells, the chest armor, the shins and the tights) and the helmet is still slightly better. Add the finish, the details (the holsters for example are not even comparable) and of course the body...day and darkest night ever.

I'm fairly certain HT will sneak a ScoutTrooper release out using the Battlefront line.

It's an interesting "out" - bit of a technicality though.:lol

Yeah, I've never had them in hand, but it does always amaze me that it can be hard to tell the HT helmet from the SSC. That should NOT have happened. When I first saw the side-by-sides, I almost thought maybe HT had just taken the SSC helmet sculpt and tweaked it

And the most important thing - the SSC came out in 2007, nearly a decade ago, and was less than half the cost. Which perhaps goes further toward explaining anything that is night and day between the figs (though SSC's bodies are still pretty bad at times and HT's are still the market standard.)

I still prefer the Marmit Sandie to the HT one - even though the armor sculpt is softer (and the vinyl thicker.) Spoken as someone who spent hours trying to tweak the HT sandie helmet to look a bit more screen accurate (not easy - overall it looks decent but it's off in SO many ways, some blatantly obvious.)

The HT stormie is a very solid, very quality figure, feels great in-hand - I'm just bummed they couldn't nail the helmet sculpt. To me it looks neither stunt nor hero - it looks more Don Post (not kidding - I mean the higher end Don Post from the 1990's.) I have the helmets off both of mine - a Marmit helmet on one, a Han head on the other.

I hope someone (work is underway in the customs section...) will cast up that amazing 3D printed stunt sculpt and finish it really well - because THAT would be night and day to both the SSC - and the HT sculpt.

I agree. I just think the original '77 molds, with all the asimmetries and strange stuff we love, are totally unappealing for the general market. Just look how many people asked (here or Facebook) if Vader cheeks were supposed to be scratched. :dunno

I think that is definately a issue for HT and SS. Alot of questions regarding Vader in particular, but many collectors obviously don't want/recognize the strange "warts and all" from the OT.

Well, they should have redesigned the stormtrooper helmet for Rogue One to make it all symmetrical and clean and functional then.

Oh wait... :lol

In terms of Ht doing a ATAT driver, the main issue is that we are now approaching three years into the world where both SSC and HT do 1/6 Star Wars, we are still yet to see HT do a figure that SSC has done in the recent past (Vader is closest, but they did ANH and SSC had done ROTJ maybe a year earlier.) So that suggests there may be some kind of arrangement - meaning a HT ATAT driver might be several years away.

Which is a bummer, because I really disliked the SSC Biker - and resold it.

And HT has already announced a Snowtrooper Commander.

The difference between HT and SSC Stormie is huge, I own both. HT might not be perfect, but is light years ahead in accuracy and design.

Eh... "might not be perfect" to me doesn't do justice to the fact that we SHOULD have gotten a nailed ANH stunt helmet sculpt (WITH swap-out "hero" variant helmet) - and we didn't. Not even close to me.

We got a helmet sculpt that to me is 5% more accurate than the SSC effort - and in hand, it was a disappointment for me, and I have two. Seriously - look at the side-by-sides of the HT and SSC stormie helmets - they almost look to be the same (inaccurate) sculpt, just one finished "light years" better than the other and with some very minor tweaks.

It's always such a mixed bag, even with HT - as I said, even though the HT Sandie is far better quality and has a beautifully crisp armor sculpt, I prefer the Marmit from a distance, despite the soft sculpt and thick vinyl. It just captures the sandie better to me. Yes, a 15-20 year old figure.

I just resculpted the HT sandie helmet to make it more accurate and when you really look at it closely, it's amazing how off some of the details are - the grey "teardrop" for example is so radically off it can't really be fixed, and it affects the look of the helmet.

So when you've been through that and someone says "night and day" as if HT's sculpts are somehow perfect, I feel the need to speak up and say it's far from it.:dunno

I appreciate your opinion regarding the comparison of HT and SSC Stormies, but I respectfully disagree.

What's the shipping on that...? Wish I had a $20 off coupon right now.

:lol

shipping weight = 7308.00 pounds = oops :lol Shipping = $1,000,000

If you're going to make something like that why not make it 1/6 instead of 1/7 scale? Why? So we can display properly scaled 10" Hasbro crap figures with it? Garbage! Oh and $35,000? Really? This is bigger, yes but people though the immaculate 1/6 Tie Fighter would be $1000. :lol

Opinions aside, the HT stormie was a lost opportunity to finally get - after SO many years of 1/6 stormies - a figure that nailed the look of the stunt or hero helmet.:(

It's stunning that the 13" Disney figure got closer than HT did. And that's not just an opinion.

I have 2 of the Disney 13" figures and you're right. I often look at them and think "why couldn't HT do this, or better" we know the technology is there. Look at what people have managed to do with the Shapeways helmets.

I considered getting this with a $25 off coupon, but I just can't live with it not being white like the Kenner ( and every other version until like five years ago).

So I finally bit the bullet on this guy. I've always been fond of the design and besides a few inaccuracies with the helmet, I'm pretty pleased. My only major mark against the figure is like others have said... the height.

I ended up doing the same thing with my TIE pilot, and swapping their tall bodies out for the shorter Luke X-wing body. All of the parts ( gloves, boots, helmet) are compatible.

I'm really pleased with the results!
