Oh no no no..... I wasn't the one who painted this. Josh (DarkArtist81) painted this

Find his profile here and give him a shout if you ever need something painted. He's SUPER SUPER nice and very talented :D

Ahh...I might just go this route. Thanks dude.

I really hate that the fact of finding a Ex Iron Man com... is nearly impossible, it's been a piece that I would love to have but I couldn't live with a fake version in my collection, nor would I want to resell it on the bay.

I prolly would throw it off my balcony. :monkey2

That is the situation I am in. Since I found out it is fake, it irritates me to no end. While I would NEVER, EVER do it, I could easily flip it as real on eBay considering that it is nearly indistinguishable outside of the pegs and it has the stamped-grey styro (again, I would NEVER do that). I am considering writing FAKE with a Sharpie really big all over both boxes, they styrofoam, and across the bottom of the base and toss it on eBay; that way someone could use it as a custom. However, my fear is that someone else would try to sell it as authentic.

I had a few people say, "If you like it, it doesn't matter if it is real or fake." That simply is not true. :(

myself, i'd really like to get one of these also, but like others on here the only reason i haven't pulled the trigger on this one is because of all the fakes out there.
i'd rather have a reg version, but they seem harder to find for some reason.

Yeah I think the idea of liking it and just "knowing" in the back of my head every time I look at the IM, I know it's fake. That kind of stuff just eats on me over time, like I said, I'd prolly destroy it and then place the pics on here, LOL!

I know a lil extreme and a lot of $$$ to waste but that's the way it rolls sometimes in this hobby. Therefore I know that there's one less fake in circulation.

P.S. Good idea on writing fake all over the boxes to justify the fake :rock

I've accepted the fact that short of hitting the lotto, I will NEVER own a RG-IM.

I'm happy with my SIM but he's the only piece I have that I would sell but only because I would use the money to pay for a standing IM (aka Classic IM) and have some additional funds for the Iron Spidey.

But an IM is definately needed in my collection so if no Classic existed then I would hold onto the SIM....and even then I just might own both the SIM and Classic IM.

Sheesh.....being tight on the mula bites donkey scrotums....:horse

The RG-IM really is the one to own though.

And I agree with Ski....no ****** fakes allowed.....pehtooeeeee

I have a Stealth IM painted in the Mark 3 (IMO, better paint app then SS, and the lights are cool on it). I have the SS Exc (real one). Only reason I have not sold it is because it looks cool on display with the tony stark head in, and the helmut head on the ground beside it. I am thinking of getting the helmet rigged up so that it hangs off the hand in behind and in the air. If I cannot do it without making it look real AND without effecting the integrity of the helmet, I will probably sell it.

The light up one painted is extremely cool.

Hmmm, should have my SIM painted RG.

Had mine done by juztoys. Paid some good cash for it, but I have to say, I would do it all over again. IMO, the paint job has to be done properly, with the respective pieces disassembled, sanded down, and build the paint back up. When I look at the paint job on mine it is like I just got a car painted by professionals.

I would suggest that anyone who has an extra SIM w/working lights and base, get it painted by a pro, with paint just ever so slight shiner then the SS version. It will look chrome without the huge glare.

After some inspiration from Skiman, I tracked down the user ID of the person who sold it to me through Paypal.com. I am going to send him an email through eBay and see what happens. If he tells me to go pound sand (which I am expecting), I will post his USER ID and my email to him and his reply.

I remember the time I was once bidding on IM Stealth and the dude had someone else or he was chill bidding from another account.

Hello fellow Freaks, last night I was bidding on a SIM on eBay and I just wanted to let you guys know about this just in case you might come across the same thing as I did.

I thought this auction was a lil fishy because shipping was so freaking high and from Florida ($75 for shipping on a SIM) but it was cheap from the get go and the bids weren't to crazy on the item.

As some all ready prolly know but to those that might get suckered into this second chase game!!! So here goes, so I was bidding on this SIM last night and it's about 60 seconds and counting til the auction ended, I'm gonna go ahead and say what it was going for and it was around $310 mark (now at this point ur're thinking man what a great deal). Anyways I'm thinking man no one has seen this because it's been a few days since anyone has put up bids on the thing. So 30 seconds rolls by and bam just up about $100, so I'm thinking not too bad, I don't mind the $400 mark still cheap. So me as the usual guy that comes in at the last second I'm thinking I'm goin to get this great deal I have a couple tabs open with my bid place ready to go, well at the last 10 seconds I drop my bids and thing goes sky rocketing into the $600++ mark with shipping. Take note I got outbidded about two times towards the end of the auction.

Ok so I lose the auction, I'm thinking man that saved me some money, well I can save for further pre-orders that I have coming... Guess what the seller contacts me immediately right after the auction has ended, I get an e-mail in Outlook mailbox stating from a PM e-mail sent by the seller not eBay that the winner of the auction didn't think they were going to win and does not have the money to pay the auction, hope you are still interested! Ok now I'm going WTF, now most ppl would jump on this because they would be excited about getting the item and winning the auction as runner up but me, not so much.

Here's my take on what really happened, going with my gut to say the least... Seller has a buddy that bids up his auctions until it's at a safe rage that he's willing to sell it for then gives me the second chase offering after the auction has been bidding up to his liking!!! I'M NOT COOL WITH THIS, if anything you should disregard all of his bids and give me the last bid that I initially put in before this bidder and I dook it out to the end (because it was only me and this other bidder). What is your guys opinion on this, I sent this out last night to a few of my buds here on the board and I wanted to state it out in the open just in case this might happen to you as well, so don't be tricked if something like this happens to you!

At the end the buy it now price was only $10-$20 less than the winners auction bid and my last losing bid but it's the principle of things, if this fake bidder wouldn't of step in and bidded it up it would of went for $310 and not $650!!!

Since I am the one that got ripped on the Sideshow EX Iron Man, I would obviously avoid the red & gold unless you know FOR A FACT that it is authentic and know the person you are buying it from very, very well. I bought mine off eBay last October for $800. I tried to do my homework and ask "all the right questions" for common signs of a fake; I wasn't aware at the time that fakes usually have round footpegs or aluminum head pegs and I am assuming that it is just a matter of time before they figure out to put in copper neckpegs and a square/copper footpeg. The guy I bought it from swore up and down that he bought it from his local comic shop.

  • Its arm is the same height as an authentic one
  • It has the GREY, SIDESHOW stamped sytrofoam
[*]It has the printed (with the big, red X) SIDESHOW shipping box
  • the paint apps almost exactly match the authentic one. I took both heads to the local hobby shop to compare and the ONLY difference is the gold is a tiny, tiny bit darker. (The one at the local shop is not an EX)

I still like it, and it looks near-identical to the original, but I was thinking of writing FAKE with a sharpie on both boxes and at the bottom of the base and selling it on eBay. I just don't want it getting turned around and resold as authentic.

Curious as what the red X is all about? What does that signify?

Well, I was surprised that the seller actually replied, however, his answer was exactly what I thought it would be.

The eBay seller ID is: CHIKITITS

Here is my initial eBay email to him:

Hello,

I bought the "Sideshow" Ironman comiquette from you last October. It was a long time ago, but I JUST found out last week that it is a fake. A friend on a model message board told me that the REAL statue has a square foot peg and copper neck pegs. The one you sold me has aluminum neck pegs and a round foot peg. I emailed Sideshow and they confirmed that the REAL Ironman has a square footpeg and copper neckpegs. I wanted to give you a chance to fix this before I tell several model message boards and model collectors your ebay USER ID and that you sell FAKE Sideshow items.

Thank you for understanding and I look forward to your response,

Jason

Here is his response:

Dear usjrc77,

Hi Jason, I didn't know it was fake on the first place. I purchased it locally at a comic shop around the same price as my starting bid. As it was hot in the market then I decided to sell. I posted many pics and pictures that you requested and I was open with regards in showing you what you were getting then. I'm not selling any other statues and it was the only time I did, so no point in posting to the boards. As much as I'd like to change things, I wouldn't be able to return the payment you made as I've already spent it. This wasn't really expected and I don't know how to resolve this.

Richard Chua

I am not sure whether there is any point in continuing to contact him and, if he really thought it was real (like I did for five months), I do feel like it is a case of "who gets stuck with the rotten egg."
