Re: Jedi Luke PF - NEWSLETTER PREORDER Dec. 10

Put myself on the waitlist for the Exclusive, but honestly, I think I'll just go through a retailer for the regular if someone has it on pre-order for 15% off.

While it took a while for the pose to grow on me, I made some subtle tweaks in photoshop to make Luke look a little more imposing IMO. Just by turning his head slightly so that he's looking the same direction as the saber is posed ready to strike/protect himself. Also, with the pupils looking head-on instead of off and behind himself. Here are the comparisons:

I like what you did.looks even better.

Keep in mind Darth Almostnekkid sold out faster than any other PF, including this awesome Luke... Looking at the view numbers on the Closer Look @ feature I published on Rebelscum, more collectors were interested in looking at that figure than any of the other PFs I've done similar features on (save Slave Leia, which also had a lot of viewers). Lets face it, there are more perverts buying toys than there are non-perverts.

:lol "Sad but truuuuuuuuuuuuuue!"

After seeing the official pics I can now make my decision and say - I don't need this piece. IT doesn't blow me away or anything.
I just don't need it in the collection. Even if it is Luke - the kid who saves the galaxy in the end.

I'm quite happy with the Vader and Obi-wan PF's put together.

I don't know what to say. I think this piece might even top the Tusken Raider (my favourite at this moment) as the coolest PF yet.

The three Luke PF's displayed together could make a pretty cool display of his journey through the saga. Its interesting how he goes from white to grey to black.

I haven't been able to nail where this pose is inspired from, I just popped in the DVD to see if I could spot it and there isn't a part in the sequence of the DSII duel that this particular thing occurs. The closest is when Luke knocks Vader off onto the lower platform and looks over his shoulder at the Emperor....It's hard for me to imagine a Vader companion at this point.

I was thinking the same thing earlier, plus I noticed he doesn't get the fold on his shirt until he starts getting lightning zapped:emperor

I think this is a classic excellent statue. The essential Luke.

As I read the negative comments that many are postings, I can't help but wonder if some "find" negatives so that they convince themselves that it isn't good enough and not worth forking out big bucks for a very expensive statue. Maybe it is subconscious: "I can't afford that" becomes "I don't like that" and then "I don't want to buy that".

There is that element with every piece. People talk themselves into disliking it so they avoid buying it. There is also the element that people have put this one such a pedestal that nothing Sideshow puts out would match their expectations. Honestly people have been clammering for a Jedi Luke PF since the first couple of PFs...that's a long time of hoping and dissecting the possibilities before actually seeing something.

I can't image that any point during the design process there wasn't a thought of a Vader companion piece for Luke. I mean it's Return of the Jedi Luke with Saber lit and at the ready. SS wouldn't put him in that pose to square off against a weequay or a speeder bike. This shouts Vader all the way.

Right, I'm not saying there won't be but I have a feeling that unlike the Obi-Vader piece where it was instantly known what the scene was from that here with this piece it'll be something original that is inspired by ROTJ but not necessarily from it...

Yeah, if this is designed to go with a Vader, then it will be a sort of made up composition that never actually happened, but that's ok, I think the spirit of the duel would be retained, Luke's in no way an agressor with that pose.

Actually that'd be the opposite of what was on-screen. Luke was very much the aggressor during the fight but continuously drew himself to calm when he had the upper hand. Fought him hard, knocked him to the lower panel and stopped. Then after Leia was mentioned damn near killed him then stopped. Its because of that, that I'm dying to find out what the pose is for Vader because there were only a couple of moments where Vader was the persuer and this seems like an idealized point to show that point...

I guess it boils down to how you look at the fight. I see Luke like Obi-Wan in the ROTS duel, he doesn't really want to, but he will not hesitate either. While Luke started the duel, I see it more as him going after the Emperor but Vader intervened so Luke fought back, he knocks Vader down the stairs but doesn't try to strike him down, his father comes after him so he flees to a catwalk, he gets knocked down and hides until finally being pushed to pure emotion. I see him as fighting out of necessity for self preservation but not wanting to take out his father. "I can't do it Ben, I can't kill my own father."

DO we really need the new vader to go with this, it would be cool, but not the same dynamic effect as the clash of sabers Obi wan/Vader thing.

I'd rather see Vader from ESB with his hand outstreched on the Bespin catwalk.

BTW this Luke pose reminds me of when he jumps up on the catwalk before Vader throws his saber at him.

Correct. You won't find that pose in this battle:

The pose reminds me of when Luke was on the upper bridge just before Vader threw his lightsaber at him...

You might be right. Thankfully, I don't think like that, 'coz having to find something I don't like about it would be tough. (that said, throwing in his cloak would make it the best PF ever)
