Re: Sideshow PF Jack Sparrow In Progress

That piece just looks amazing really. I think its gonna be one of those pieces you have to have in a collection if you're a movie fan. The character is one of those I think thats made an impact because of how much people talk about him. Then when you get into the piece itself with all the detail thats in it and the likeness it has to Depp. Its a must have. Just glad he goes up during my lunch shift.

Re: Sideshow PF Jack Sparrow In Progress

This is one of the best executed PF's I've seen, there's been some where I feel like the pose or overall composition just doesn't work for the character or at all, but this one really gets Jack's persona in it.

Yeah, this pose and piece totally gives you the feeling of Cap Jack.

He needs a 1/4 scale wench though :lol

"I might have deserved that."

You guys hit the nail on the head. Everyone who comes into my place ALWAYS says 'WOAH!' especially when they see the ROTLA Indy PF. It's so striking, and SO Indy. The tall stance, the sneering smirk...Jack will be the same I'm sure.

Something about the ROTLA Indy and the Jack Sparrow PF that make them such 'standalone' pieces compared to the Star Wars and LOTR PF's IMO. Maybe it's that Indy embodies the franchise, and Jack embodies the POTC franchise whereas with Star Wars and LOTR, you have so many characters that embody it, it's really hard to have that one, single standout.

I still wish they gave Jack the trademark smirk (like they did with ROTLA Indy's sneer), but other than that, it's a STELLAR piece indeed!

Now, give us a PF of Barbossa! HE can come with the monkey! :D

Re: Sideshow PF Jack Sparrow In Progress

I see what you're saying as far as SW and LOTR go. Though, I would disagree that you certain pieces from those movies don't measure up to that level of standing out. You have say Vader in the SW line for sure as well as Obi-Wan from ANH. LOTR I think Aragorn and GTG are two pieces that you could have.

I totally agree with you TJ, in fact, if I had to narrow it down to being able to have just 4 PF's, one from each franchise, it would be ROTLA Indy, Jack Sparrow, Boba Fett and GTG. But I agree about Vader, or Obi-Wan...and Aragorn...

I just think there's something 'special' about Indy and Jack to 'non-collectors' that give them that 'extra' factor. Maybe it's that people naturally think of SW (and to a smaller degree LOTR) when it comes to display collectibles...but wouldn't expect such a high-quality statue of say, Indy or Jack to be gracing one's shelves.

Re: Sideshow PF Jack Sparrow In Progress

I don't think it's a matter of how the character represents the films or anything.

I don't think it's that Jack or Indy represent their series, it's that the PF's represent them.

Like I said, some of the PFs look nice or whatever, but they don't always embody the characters as well as they could. A good example I think, the Terminator Arnold PF, it looks really nice, but I wouldn't say the spirit of the character is really embodied in the pose and weaponry and all, not like this Jack where his smooth guy swagger and his manipulative mind are so well depicted.

Thanks MF, I think that's what I was trying to get at, but I was going about it the other way. Indeed, it's that the PF's are so well executed, they represent THEM to a T.

I totally agree that Indy and Jack appeal even to the non collector. I know when I did have my Indy PF that my mom was impressed with it her being a non collector and all.

I agree that it represents them totally thats a give, but I think they also do a great job of representing the series of movies they star in. I agree some PF's don't pull off the character as well as I'd like to see like with the Darth Maul PF. It looked cool but didn't capture what I liked about the character.

Re: Sideshow PF Jack Sparrow In Progress

Interesting, as to me, Maul's one I've always felt captured the character pretty true to what they were.

It's a challenge with statues, with figures, we as collectors can shape them into the characters, but with a statue, either you get it or don't. Sometimes I find pieces no only don't capture the character, but also present them in such a way that's almost completely opposite and really doesn't look right.

Re: Sideshow PF Jack Sparrow In Progress

I definitely agree with you guys about the Jack PF embodying so much of POTC. You've got the Depp likeness, his stance, the cursed coins, the magic compass, a good "piratey" lantern (;)), and even his trademark rum! Can't imagine another POTC PF, even another Jack, topping this one. No it doesn't have the hat but it certainly has darn near everything else.

I passed on the ROTLA Indy because I think the TOD Indy PF can still top it. TOD really showcased a great swashbuckling side of Indy that I think has become as iconic as the smirking everyman. We'll see how it turns out.

Re: Sideshow PF Jack Sparrow In Progress

Well, it wouldn't be much mixed media, but I think a PF Davy Jones would really look cool, there's so much color and texture to his design, I really love it, makes the Hot Toys figure one of my favorites for it's look.

I'd take multiple Jack PF's though, not so much impressive as this one but certainly an eye catcher would be a PF of this :lol

Be cool to have one where the composition suits this pose for his hand and face.

And it'd be cool to have one of him at the wheel of the Pearl, "Drink up me hearties yo-ho!"

Though with that "yay, I've got my boat back" smirk of satisfaction on his face of course.
