Never was a GG mini-bust collector, the ones I have only add up to a larger setup/display. I only own the Kotobukiya Scout and GG Scout on speederbike statue, both are very cool. My own SSC Scout figure and speederbike will only arrive later this year. No matter accuracy or flaws I intend to keep them, but only buy one of each.
Personally only have two gg busts the scout and Vader have the koto statue as well. I'm slowly learning not expect perfection sadly

The wrongly done "mouth" is a subtle thing that throws the helmet out quite a bit to me (prop on left, SSC on right)...

The missing thick black line makes the model parts overscale, and the mouth too narrow.

The nose sticker/aerator difference too. Though I think the mouth black part can be fixed with a lot of care and black paint. Not to mention the top round goggles

I own about 10 GG busts, 8 GG Imperial statues (all their Imperials, except the red Stormtrooper crap), and 12 Koto statues. They are all nice, but have their own pros and cons.

Yeah I tottaly get that, personally I think the gg bust is a better rep of the scout then this, but I shall see for myself on Wednesday

I thought you canceled to get locally?

Mine cleared customs on Saturday so I'm hoping for a delivery tomorrow.

The Koto scout is an absolute cracker!

Holy cow! What a difference. I normally have a good eye but you guys are really showing how "off" this figure is in so many ways :(

Regardless - I'm still getting it :)

I need a Scout like it appeared in ROTJ. Don't care for a concept and/or game Scout Trooper, not that I don't like their design, but this particular figure was released as ROTJ Scout.

The situation we have here, IMO, is one where the release looks great on its own and seems like a really solid figure, but in terms of accuracy to the film source, it's very off from top to bottom. To a casual fan it will just be a "Bike Trooper." To anyone really familiar with the design from the movie or comparing closely to screenshots, it's going to be an artistic/creative interpretation, not much different in concept to Sideshow's Marvel superhero interpretations we're seeing with Wolverine, Deadpool, Punisher, etc.

Pretty much describes all star wars sixth scale figures from all brands.

When we talk about accuracy on 1/6 figures there are various degrees we can see in different figures from different makers. All of them have the "artistic interpretation" present there, and for their size we have to admit some of it is ok, but a few have more of it than others. When you have way too much "artistic interpretation" you might end up in the potato head realm LOL. It's not really the case with the Scout here which looks very nice, but I would have liked a bit more attention to details. Still as I already said, cannot wait to get mine and the bike.

To some degree, but the details (compared to the screen) in this Scout are bordering on obscene. The difference here, compared to many other accuracy fails, is that the Scout still looks great. In other words, despite how much was ignored from the actual screen, the figures still works.

Since I will not have the figure in hands for some time this is good to know.

One need only look at the helmet - I don't think there's a single square centimetre that matches the actual costume/prop. It's off in every conceivable way, but when you look at it, you still think "Scout Trooper" and the production value/quality seems very high.

It's a very mysterious choice.

References abound. It's not significantly more work or that much more expensive to make it more accurate to what was used on-screen.

This figure, like the Hot Toys Stormtrooper, looks excellent, but just like that one, it isn't quite as faithful to the screen-used prop as it could be.

I would love it if the creative/production choices could be addressed by someone at Sideshow. Has anyone ever asked them? Respectfully, that is.

i .e. You had an opportunity to recreate a screen-used costume in 1/6 scale; but chose to go with an artistic interpretation instead, in effect creating your own version of the character, perhaps akin to very sophisticated fan art.

The resulting product remains stunning, but lacks fidelity to the actual prop, which is a relatively simple design.

Additionally, sculpts between lines such as Premium Format and 1/6, are not internally consistent.

Is there an overarching logic or motivation behind these design choices, or a mandate from license holders?

CAHobbit? Anyone else from Sideshow able to give us some insight on the creative and production process?

Anyone identified the kind of body used yet? Is a HT or Coo Model narrow shoulder going to work as a replacement?

Sorry for the delay, K. I meant to answer this for you a few days ago. I'm certainly not in the mood to do another teardown, so I'll use a stand in. This body (Boba Fett Supertrooper) is the same as the Scout, with only one difference. The shoulder area lacks the 'sleeves.' I imagine it's so that the chest armor can sit as low as possible on the shoulders. The neck is the same long neck they use on all armored characters. Also, it's cast in black plastic.

All of these are excellent points, and sum things up quite nicely.

On Friday night, I was beginning to see just HOW off the helmet is. However, I can't think of another figure that I've seen that looks this inaccurate, yet for some reason, still looks absolutely accurate. Tea and no-tea, I guess.

The simple answer from these companies will be for sure: we don't care.

Unless... This figure suffers from random-body-syndrome like the Hoth releases. ;) You'd expect it wouldn't since they have to cast new parts to make them black.

Yeah, maybe I should've said 'MY scout' and 'MY supertrooper,' lol!

Honestly, though, I'm pretty sure they'll all be the same, as the body does have a unique feature - the shoulder area cutouts.
