The Classic suit will always be the iconic COMIC version, and that want change. Honestly when the New52 gets old we will see a MASSIVE reversion backto the books we knew with LITTLE tweaks ... After the next Crisis of course.

a year or so ago I would have said the exact same thing (and actually probably did elsewhere). But now I think that MoS is going to cement that look to the point of no return. The movie, even if it fails, is going to be seen by a hundred times as many people who will ever be reading any New52 books. Even if they reboot the line again in 3 or 4 years, they are likely going to hew to what up to that point is the highest profile conception of the character...which will be the newest film.

As for the movie I agree with Mose that this will be a new Real World esthetic that will stick around for awhile ate least... Maybe not 2033, but would say a good 10 years...:lecture

I don't think we'll ever see a return to the trunks style suit, unless it's some limited one-off under the banner of a niche retro appeal release of something. For better or worse, this is the modern conception of the character.
That's what I meant by relevance. New is what is most relevant to the young...not classic.

That or the movie suit as it is CURRENTLY is the one or two off before they move it towards the classic look ALLA Amazing Spiderman 2 which, except for the larger Spider icons n the back and front, is a straight up CLASSIC Romitaesque Spiderman. Remember the classic Superman look has more then 70 years of history. Name one major character that had even half that history that diet eventually revert back to their classic look following a costume change eventually.

good point about the AS-M2 costume. Even though I avoided the first film for plot and character points more than the costume tweaks, I was happy to see them go back to the classic look.

The problem with Superman and lovers of the classic look (myself included) is that we're seeing a one-two punch. You have the Jim Lee look spilling out over into basic, non movie related, character merchandise (I'm seeing this pop up more and more now) and the movie is not only going to consolidate that trunk-less look, but for the first time (imo) it's going to actually make it look somewhat cool. I don't find the Jim Lee design to be appealing at all, but the movie look I'm warming up to big time. It's also going to be apparent in the film that the design is specifically related to certain Kryptonian apparel. Having the design of the costume finally 'make plot sense' is going to be a big deal in giving this look it's authority and authenticity.
Nothing cements a concept in peoples minds like seeing it justified in a movie.

But who knows? As long as they eventually ditch the silly high collar and the it's-not-holding-anything-up belt, I'll consider it a minor victory. But then again, I don't read new comics anymore anyway, so I probably shouldn't care so much.

I really want this movie to do well. Everything I am seeing so far looks great. What a great PF this could be. I have to fight the urge to PO though. If I leave the theater and it rocked my socks off then down the road I may pick this up provided final product matches proto. Maybe.....

I am far from a "kid" and have grown up with Superman being my favorite character. I loved his costume but change is inevitable guys and this change actually makes sense, the new suit is modern and clean, and really, it's goofy to wear your underwear on the outside of your pants! :)

To me it's similar to what they've done with the Bale/Batman costume. They re-designed Batman's look to "make sense" within the time and place that it exists and they have done the same with Man Of Steel and I'm all for it!

I think it's cool too tam. I really like the new suit but I can't stand Bales suit functional or not. Looks like a black cue tip or something.

I am so torn on this piece. I said to myself I would only do DC comic versions not movies. But when this and Bale come out.... Oh boy I'm in trouble.

Unless I hate the movie of course. But I don't think that will happen.

"Black Cue Tip"? :lol:rotfl:lol

There has always been something that bothered me about the mouth cutout area of the cowl and the neck area of Bales costume. But I like the rest of it.

Yeah, I agree with you about the cutout. From the chest down though he looks solid.

Sorry black cue tip was the best I could do.:lol

I agree with you about the TDK cowl. I always thought it should have been cut with more of angle. Like this

He needs a more angular look all over his head. Less rounding if possible. Would make it look more masculine and bad a$$

That above ^^^ gives me a bat boner.

How soon will this be up? This week? Week of the movie release? Months from now? :impatient:

Gonna have to get this superman too. I love the modern take on tue costume as much as the Bale batman.

that's true, but also, they said that they would've included the outer shorts if they could find a function for it. According to both Snyder and Nolan, the suit/cape all have a purpose, they aren't there just for decoration. Nolan wasn't going to include the forearm blades (or at least questioned the need for them) on Batman's costume until Goyer came up with a function for them as apparently, a DC rep said that they were there just for decoration when questioned on why Batman had those. Some say that WB was trying to make a real life New 52 suit while others are saying that the new suit was designed before New 52 was released. Who knows for sure? But I like the new suit as well. I think they've done a great job at updating the look while keeping it looking like a Superman suit. Really glad that this movie also looks nothing like the Donner films. Like you said, "change is in inevitable and this change actually makes sense"
