SSC has shown in the past that many times... In hand is better then their "pro" shots.... I point to the T1 Pf as a perfect example.

They've also shown that the in hand pics are generally worse than their prototype shots ....I point to almost every statue in existence other than T1 :)

I love many works that sideshow did,but don't me wrong, I love the artists, not the quality control policy, sideshow as company cares about money and is something that manages form a complete miserable way.

My Conan PF looks just as good as the proto... My TOD Indy looks better then the Proto... Superman looks as good so does Joker... G Hulk looks as good. I could go on.... Most of the time I am happy with SSC. Once in a while they throw a curve ball... But many times people will order things from them after the In hand photos come in because many feel that those photos are better then the SSC site photos...

I think SSC tries to balance the business with their artistry, but a factory in China, can't always live up to what SSC produces in America.

I think it looks fine. Its an unflattering shot, but in person this will look good. Im sure of it.

I think not the polystone is the problem. The sculpt have some issues(eyebrow, etc). and the paintwork kills it.

They must change the technique and use skn casted resin, that looks far better. I know the Superman Reeves PF is not good, but the paintwork is worlds better.

I think there is another issue to make this even worse beside of polystone they use, which is the skin detail. Because the polystone is a very bad material to capture the skin pore or tiny wrinkles, so I guess the sculptor has to make them very deep, sharp and big in order to cast. I know SS wants to compete with those figure companies on details of headsculpt, but clearly it's a wrong decision.

I own six old pfs which including Luke Jedi knight, two Jones from Raiders and crystal, and T1,T2,Dutch PF. Except latest Dutch, the head sculpt of the rest don't have much skin details, just simply awesome sculpt with well done flat paint job. To me, they all hold extremely well today and still the best represent of these characters. That's just because less skin detail and color variation fits this particular polystone material so you won't see the disadvantage of it.

The difference is the that the other companies use a plastic that has a bit of translucency on the surface. This hides or reduces the surface detail quite a bit And disguises all of the flaws as well. The painted polystone tends to enhance the surface detail (darker colors pooled in the pores ) and so while the sculptures are most likely similar in detail to each other, the enterbay skin is helped quite a bit by the plastic. The downside is that the translucent plastic tends to have a toy-like appearance in the end and the polystone looks better in hand because when not blown up in huge pictures, the details are just enough to be noticable to the human eye without being overwhelming...

This looks like a PF from 2008. If this would have come out 5 years ago at a $250 price point, I wouldn't have a problem with it. In fact, I would have said it came out good. Fast forward to today, I'd say this is mediocre at best. Like Dutch PF, very heavy handed paint apps.

I've been buying PFs since 2006 and the one gripe I have is the inconsistencies from one PF to the next and the overall impression that they generally haven't really improved over the years relative to their increased prices...although there are exceptions. Ex., I think their new Red Skull looks awesome.

I know what you mean, they can knock something out of the park like the new Hellboy, yet do this to an all time classic. Still holding out hope, but it is fading...

They must've got the box/weight down quite a bit with this one too coz he's $60 shipping, relatively cheap for a PF shipped to Australia.

*Edit - only 500 ES too -
grail status confirmed.

Well, I'm excited for this fig, he ships next week - looks like I'll be one of the three people who got it.

I am number 2 or 3 Bruce! Can't wait for your review on this one to confirm that it's not as bad as the photos show (hopefully)!

Yeah same here! And going up on my Arnold shelf will be awesome, all his Arno bros have been waiting for years. He's shipping on the 15th so I should have him in hand about a week later. Been waiting for a BD version since the first T2 PF so it will be great to have him finally. Maybe the figures out there are more impressive but I'm not a figure guy so wotevs.

I have plenty of polystone PFs and also Blitzway's hybrid 1:3 Bruce Lee. The latter looks way better in hand. Not a bit toyish, just an incredibly lifelike Lee which everyone praises.

When done well and with proper paint apps, a polystone portrait can have a nice sculptoral feel about it that makes you go "Damn, that's a nice sculpture of that actor!". With those Asian fellas' PVC head sculpts, though, what you often say is "Damn, it's like they miniaturized him!" It's all down to what you prefer, but whereas polystone pieces very rarely get the love they need in the paint department for them to really shine, PVC pieces usually deliver.

The toy feel those have is due to the articulated, generic, bodies, unnatural poses, and the loose way the clothes may fit on them, in my opinion. I, too, can't stand that. That's why Blitzway's approach was revolutionary and I still hope other companies will follow through.
