I'm surprised by the waitlist cancellations, especially for those who hopped on early. I think it's entirely possible there may have been issues with the system overall, who knows. I got the email at 3:17 Eastern time and I think it was already sold out by then or close to it, so yes the emails go out in waves and I was working. Sure it's a letdown and a pain in the ass, but these things happen and there will be a new "shiny" before long. It's been years since Sideshow has had a super hot product, and none that I can think of retailed for anywhere close to $1,200. Usually a $500 EX will hang on for weeks or months before selling out, so even though I had planned to get it immediately this was completely out of left field.
What ticks me off is the childish attitude on display. Between the whining, taunting and cheating it's a bit ridiculous to watch. Just because folks were sitting by their computers refreshing screens does not make them geniuses. I'm not sure why some folks would be rooting against WLs converting. It's not like that will change the ES. And invariably, a few months after the statue releases somebody will post a photo showing 3, 4, or 5 exclusives all lined up. Congrats you cheated the system and other collectors. I've got plenty of "grails" so I'm not going to shed a tear over this one. Sure I can afford to buy it in the secondary, but I probably won't. While it would be nice to have the official exclusive, I'm just happy the head will be removable so I can pick up a custom or two. Although I'm sure there are people hoping SS will re-engineer so the head is not removable on the regular. For now I'm going to hold off on the "Collectors" version. If Sideshow had offered an incentive like double reward points or free shipping as a consolation I would have PO'd it to mitigate some of the $ I'll end up spending for a custom portrait. So I'll either hold out for in-hand reviews or wait until it goes on the WL.
The hobby has grown tremendously in the past few years, and Sideshow, seeing that folks are willing to cough up $700, $800, $1,000+ on high quality statues and customs managed to up its game with this one. I'm not sure if its the beginning of a new standard for the company or just an aberration. We'll see what they do with Magneto.
