Not to get into geek war, but I think Ankain could have taken him in a saber fight. But not if it came to using the Force.

Anakin lost to OB1 because he got too full of himself and his new powers at that point.

Yup. Anakin was the Chosen One. He was the only one who could end the Sith. That has to count for something.

I think Palps would have smoked Anakin without breaking a sweat. Don't forget that Anakin did not acquire his Sith-y powers until after Mace was defeated. Before that, he's still a conflicted, confused Jedi Knight with delusions of grandeur.
And Palpatine as much as says that Vader WILL be more powerful then him, not IS more powerful. And Yoda recognized that Kenobi (who defeated fully Sith-ed out Anakin) would have gotten his ass handed to him by The Emperor. So there you are.

I agree that Mace had bested Palpatine in battle. I don't think Palpatine was prepared for how close to the Dark Side Mace Windu could skirt when it came to his saber fighting technique (Vaapaad). Palpatine worked best in manipulation and mind games. In a straight up fight though, he wasn't the best. Mace and Yoda were.

I always saw it as Palpatine let Mace 'beat' him because he knew Anakin was on his way and needed to turn Anakin to the dark side by him stopping Mace from killing him. Palpatine had the back up plan with the sith lightning. Palps was playing both of them. Mace thought he was weak, and Anakin thought he really needed Palpatine to save Padme.

Sidious did beat Yoda afterall. That would rank as follows:

1) Palpatine
2) Yoda
3) Obi-Wan
4) Anakin
5) Mace

i dont think yoda lost to palpatine. he fell off the podium to the bottom of the chamber and palpatine started calling in his guards. by the time yoda would've made it back to the top to start fighting again he would've been outnumbered 50:1... he fled to fight another day. palpatine wasn't that great of a fighter, he was a powerful force user, but thats it.

Exactly.

Look at the shock on Sidious' face when Yoda repelled his Force lightning. He clearly wasn't expecting that little trick. The only thing that saved him was his mass...Yoda was lighter and therefore got thrown farther that Sidious. And he had to resort to calling in the troops.

mace was #3...maybe an older and more experienced anakin could beat him but not at that point in ROTS.
