Thinking about it, I hope it's 1st person, 3rd person is too tied to the "action horror" nonsense these days, so FP is a fresher template.

Besides 1st person is way more immersive.

Personally would prefer it in third-person over-the-shoulder akin to Downpour or Shattered Memories but that's just me.

You're not, although it feels like it's such a small minority that feel the same way. I don't "hate" him, I'm just sick of his hype.

Don't say that to my girlfriend, she has a HUGE thing for Reedus! Can't really see it myself, bit too scruffy looking IMO.

Lots of girls have a thing for the guy, but seriously, he isn't a terrible actor and I like his style.

I don't get the hate for him being in this game.

Well, I think both 1st P and 3rd P would be necessary, if the actual game is anything like the teaser, 1st person is essential for exploring and catching the little details and maybe 3rd person for regular traveling and possible combat?

Otherwise the game would need the important objects to be shinny again like the old games, and we've come too far for that shtick.

But tbh, 3rd person is just not that scary.

Ehh depends on personal preference I guess. I've been immersed in some 3rd person games more than FPS ones, like how some would argue that psychologically some 3rd person games give a better sense of perception/self-awareness akin to real life than some FPS games could achieve (where a lot of things are limited through a sense of vision that's being funneled). Admittedly I do agree that I'd definitely prefer to see a mix of the two for this one, and with the level of technology used for games nowadays I can easily see that happening (not to mention SH has tried that a couple of times in some of their games anyway).

That's the thing, awareness = not scary, the fact that you can only see what's in front of you, makes it all the more scary.

If you play the demo, you'll realize how scared **** you're gonna be every time you have to look back or peep around the corner :lol

In fact, the playthroughs show how everybody at one point is ****ing scared of looking back.

Personally 1st person in horror games has proven to be more effective.

In fact, even FEAR scares me more than SH1 ever did, and SH1 is a way better game.

Well this game is random I assume it saves and each part is random. Because yesterday I played the demo until
the ghost closes the door
well I get the courage today and now that door is locked and lights in house are red literally the second I walk into first hallway also don't listen to radio. lol

Bringing in a popular actorlike Reedus could be an incline that the gameplay will feature both 1st & 3rd person... Deus Ex: HR had a slick mechanic of switching between 1st and 3rd when in cover.

I prefer both poin of view included in this game, just like The Room.
3rd person view when lurking outside, and 1st person view when inside building. Just like you says Gaspar, and i really hope they not removing combat/defend your self thing in this new SH.

I don't mind 1st person, but for a game series like Silent Hill that relies on symbolic imagery and wearing you down psychologically from a game design aspect than visual scares in many FPS horror games, it just loses its identity and might as well be a different horror game with a different title. SH2 was a gem in its game design execution and it didn't even need FPS to achieve the kind of "scares" it did, not because it "did it better" but because it was a different brand of horror that mastered its style to perfection. If this new SH can get anywhere near that without losing the 3rd person aspect, I'd be more than happy.

Well I don't see how the symbolic imagery or identity is lost with 1st person.

Sure weird angles can be freaky, but I believe 1st person can affect you more psychologically than 3rd person.

3rd person is no longer representative of horror, thanks to RE :lol I don't think they can achieve suspense and terror in 3rd person like the 1st SH did.

What makes silent hill what it is, is the story and theme more than the gameplay mechanics, especially when those gameplay mechanics are now tired and abused.

I think 1st person horror is still somewhat fresh.

Eh nope, sorry. As someone who's looked into the game design development of SH2 and how they formatted the levels to purposely wear down the player (which in this case, IT IS part of the gameplay mechanics), I would have to greatly disagree with this notion. I'm not talking about the interactivity or the clumsy combat (something that SH was never ever good at until Shattered Memories or Downpour respectively), I'm talking about the game design, mapping of the levels and how it all factors the player's psychology with the labyrinthine structure of the levels or the mind-draining repetitiveness of the layout of the streets/apartments almost like a maze. SH1 and SH3 weren't that great in the story and themes department (B-horror cult plot anyone?) and yet even they got the game design part down which was essentially what made them such great games.

SH2 just happened to have a GREAT story coupled with a great game design. I've rarely seen other horror titles evoke such thought in the creation of the level structure and game design, especially like it was in SH2. Just because other horror titles are getting sucky at using 3rd person, it doesn't mean that it can't be revitalized in anyway. Again, I see the good use that FPS can bring to something like SH (so I don't disagree with you in that regard), but I'm just hoping that they don't remove the 3rd person view entirely when part of what made the original SH trilogy into the good games they are is how Team Silent carefully crafted and laid out the levels and overall game design with a 3rd person narrative.

Playing downpour again now and from a tech side, its rough - like its 'super distracting to the point I don't want to play it' rough! So, Gameplay mechanics are huge. I am all for choice in a game. 1st person 3rd person I don't care - if they can do both, do both! How does he handle MGS? 3rd person only?

Really big shame too. I love the combat, exploration, and interactivity in Downpour and I thought it had the best in the series by far with how easily you could scamper around like an actual person (be it fight or flight). But yeah, the shoddy tech and buggy loading really held it down from feeling like a polished game (I appreciate Vatra's effort for the most part in comparison to other Western SH games though). MGS is mostly 3rd person, but some 1st person elements have been used/implemented in terms of the shooting too. I can easily see Kojima mixing the two, especially since a number of SH games have already used 1st-person in varying degrees when it comes to the exploration part.

vatra definitely had some great ideas, but the tech issues were really bad, and this is post Patch. I've yet to get to SH in my 2nd playthrough, but that's where I had most my issues - roaming outside the town.

OK all, tried to download SIlent Hill PS1 from PS3 to Vita - hooked vita up using USB, did the necessary updates (lol) and went to content manager on Vita. No option gave me 'game' just 'applications,' 'saves.' etc. No indication of SH or even RE to be downloaded to Vita. What am I missing?

I dont get whats the point of getting Redus' likeness if the game is first person shooter. seems kind of stupid and only done for advertising

We don't even know if it's gonna be a first person shooter. The playable teaser is literally just that, a playable teaser. There's no guarantee if it will even be in first person since they've already confirmed that none of the gameplay content in the teaser will be in the main game.

Omg I was watching the playable stuff on youtube and the jump scare scared the crap out of me.... I feel stupid because it shouldn't have scared me but It really did

Because even if the game is 1st person, if its story oriented, the cinematics are usually in 3rd person so you can see the characters.

I personally hope this would be 3rd person cause I'm not a fan of 1st person games.
Now, that might change once 3d goggles are fully implemented in games.
But until its just a normal game, I like seeing the characters all the time.
