It's not a bust. It's the full Sano statue.

I'm bored at work too, Ski. Which is why I've resorted to channeling my excitement into a youtube video, and polluting Nathan's thread with it :lol

I'm definitely interested to see what you come up with for Marf's eternal project... I'm also excited to see Calvin Klein soon. :)

:exactly: :hi5:

Two long-awaited grails so close to completion, and so close together! My excitement is palpable.

Like I said in the Sano thread, I love it Nathan. Great work and I'd love to know how you're gonna tint and fog the dome..

I wish overall the piece was bigger though. So for me personally, it doesn't get any better than the sideshow Big Chap Maquette. Just got it the other day and I'm just blown away. Of course, I'm no painter and that is why I need a fully finished product :lol whereas you can take a kit like this and turn it into a masterpiece. A nice skill to have :clap

Out of curiosity, what your take is on the Big Chap Maquette since I believe you mentioned you had seen it in person? Comparison wise to this Sano piece.

I'll be using translucent paints to tint the dome. I haven't decided yet if I will paint the inside of the outside of the dome. The back of the dome where it meets the head will be blended into almost totally black. I mostly want to keep the dome clear to see the detail inside, but it probably won't look right without a hint of fog. I also want to give it those squiggly white veins I can see in these pics.

the Big Chap is one of my oldest childhood obsessions. There have been so many incarnations of him in collectible form over 33 years, and none of them has measured up to my dream of the perfect Big Chap collectible. In one way or another, they all seem to miss the mark of perfection. I have minor dislikes about the Sideshow maquette, mostly the pose and skinny arms, but I do think it was the best rendition of Big Chap...

...until Sano revealed his. Though the Roswell/Sano piece is an odd size, it is a perfect representation of Big Chap based on Giger's museum piece. When I want to look upon the magnificent design of the Alien, I don't need an action pose, especially if the pose is out of character, looks off-balance, and detracts from my viewing pleasure. All I need is excellence of likeness execution. Sano did that. The pre-painted statues lack in the paint department, but the model kit version which allows me to do my best to capture the paint as well as Sano capture the sculpt is definitely my Holy Grail of the Alien saga. When this piece is done, I will never have to buy another Big Chap, ever.

Your Alien is going to be epic Nathan!
I'm watching Alien as I type on IFC!

Nice. I really want to watch it so badly, especially since I've started painting my kit, but I'm forcing myself to wait until I can rush home after seeing Prometheus to watch the "sequel".

Awesome, Thanks bud. Can't wait to see the finished Alien :rock

My wife and I made a couple of these for the Evil Superman project. They are inkjet printed on flag like cloth and then weathered.

Inspired by Viva's Evil Superman holding a new, but slightly burned flag I thought it would be grand to have my version not just holding the American flag, but holding Old Glory, a flag that looks like it's been proudly displayed for a good long time until Superjerk came along and tore it down.
