I didn't mean they sit on it for 2 years; I meant from original concept to reveal usually takes about 2 years. In the case of the Battle Droids, the proto parts I painted were only paint masters, and were not the finished parts. China did a lot of work on the joints and things to make viable action figures out of them, and then they had to successfully copy my paint apps. That's what took so long from paint to final reveal at Comic Con.
Also, at Comic Con they revealed several variant Droids like pilots and security droids, as well as the brown Geonosis droids which China actually paint prototyped themselves. That all took some time.
And OOM-9 is the third droid related release after the STAP (even though I painted him with the basic droids and before the STAPs), so it makes sense that he is 2 years away from when I actually painted him. I imagine the total project time from concept to reveal was more like 3 or 4 years on the Droids.
But, you are still right to some degree. I know of finished stuff they sit on for up to a year sometimes. They often tease things in production blog videos where you see a sculpt in progress, but the piece is actually finished already.
