Thanks batfan. I'll reply to your PM soon. I try to set aside reply times in large chunks. If I reply to everything as it comes in, it's easy to lose track quickly.

No problem, man. Take your time, as I'll bet you're probably pretty busy with the new jobs and all (congrats, by the way).

Hey Nathan, I sent you a PM about a week ago. When you get a moment could you drop me a reply? Thanks! :duff

Nice job on the battle droid commander, Nathan! :clap

I love the oil secretion on his chest!
Hopefully China can replicate that.

The pics you're seeing are the China paint apps. The prototype I painted was not able to be assembled and posed like you see. Also, I can see where some details are different or missing from my original work, but mostly China did a very nice job of recreating what I did. :clap

Will do.

Wow...they did do a good job on this one.

Did you ever post your photos of this one?

China did an excellent job of reproducing my paint apps on OOM-9.

I really like the weathering and battle scars on yours better, especially the slash on the helmet and metallic showing on the sides.

Holy crap Nathan, I really liked the look of Sideshow's paint-up... that is, until I saw yours! Agree with Gibby, love the metallic scars.

Just out of curiosity, when you are given these jobs, do you get all the reference pics from Sideshow, like the ones above?

Thanks guys. I love painting matallic scratches. It's fairly easy and it comes off looking so well.

Sideshow sometimes provided references, but a lot of the time I just did Google Image search, which is often all they can do as well, especially with older properties like Alien.

Amazing as usual Nate! SS really lost an Ace in the hole when you parted ways!

Thanks. Fortunately my talent, experience, and techniques come with me to my new opportunities.

love the dirtiness of your paint ups. Hoping that the Boba Fett turns out as good.

Thanks. Me too. I don't feel the need to repaint any of the production Clones cause the factories are getting close enough to what I did that I'm happy with them. Droids too. But my own copy of Fett, unless he looks absolutely perfect, will get a repaint back to absolute screen accuracy.

Thanks. The downside is that no factory has the time to be as ____ and put in the amount of time I did on those. OOM-9 was one of my first projects for Sideshow, and the reaction I got was, "Yeah, that's great, we're all very impressed. Now dial it back. The factories will never be able to do this, and we don't want collectors to be upset that they aren't getting what we are showing." (paraphrase). That's why my protos are not on the Droid order pages, and the factory versions are. Same with the STAPs:wink1:

I have to say, while the battle droids aren't my favorite "characters" from the Star Wars universe, seeing the figure all disassembled like that really makes me appreciate the work Sideshow did engineering the figure. That's a lot more moving parts than I would have expected.

Between that and your stellar paint job, I think these figures are far cooler than the droids that appear in the movies.

I have to agree. In a way the figures are better than the characters they are supposed to be.

Sideshow's engineering is getting very impressive on this stuff for sure. That's one of the things I miss about working on their stuff, seeing the cool stuff they are coming up with to make figures. Factory paint issues aside, Sideshow itself is doing some amazing things these days. And what they are working on today you won't see for two years, so imagine what's coming.:horror

:lol. Had to laugh at someone telling you to dial it back. I just wish they could bring those jobs back here. I would think people might pay more if they knew it was helping fellow Americans...or maybe not. :dunno

Would love to see your Boba if you touch him up! :rock

SSC is doing some great stuff, and I can only imagine what you have seen. :lol
