Sorry to hear this Nathan I was getting ready to pm u about a few paint ups. Good luck with getting caught up and maybe I'll hit u up when u relaunch.

Very admirable of you, SS. :clap I think in the past, more than a few customizers on this board who went rogue have shown that it is difficult to realize when you have to pace yourself. When you're continuously pumping out work at the top notch level you have set, everybody wants a piece, and it's hard to resist. Great to see that you know how to deal with the situation before anything can even get out of hand.

Also, since I don't own any of your work I regret that you won't post any more updates in here in the near future for me to drool at, but it's perfectly unstandable. :)

Sorry to hear you're putting a hold on things, but good to hear you'll be back. I hope I'll be able to have my Old Ben done when you start up again. Good luck!

That do you want to know?

I was looking to try and repaint him myself, and was wondering what some of the colours you used were. The yellow for his decals is so much more accurate with yours, as are the oils and weathering. I was also curious about the eyes. On the figure the eyes and really round and big, but on your proto you were able to get them to look the more accurate, smaller and more "squinty" for lack of a better word. Is that your paint job or did they alter the figure slightly?

Was he easy to take apart and reassemble, or did you get him like that and send him back unassembled?

Any help would be appreciated. I love the paint job on that droid.

Thanks. I only painted parts as paint master references, and those weren't meant to be assembled. The design went through some engineering in China in order to be what it is in final release. If you look at my proto pics closely, you can see that the eye indention is only the outline of the eye. In the final piece, the black of the eye itself is indented, and the overall size changed.

I used a canary yellow for the marking. They weren't decals. I went really solid and bright with the yellow so it would pop, and then I weathered over it. The weathering is just some browns and blacks airbrushed and hand brushed as needed.

Thanks for that, man. Yeah sorry, I meant the droid's rank paint apps, not actual decals. Did you pain the droid's actual main body colour or was that how the plastic came? What would you say the paint was for the main body colour? I'd very much like to get mine looking as if they're metal, as yours did, the released figure is nice and everything, but they look more like plastic, more "toyish".

Is there anything you would recommend for correcting the eyes on the released figure?

I know this is probably all pretty basic and old hat type stuff for you, so I really appreciate it.

Oh, one last thing. For whatever reason, Sideshow decided to leave the pins exposed on the finger joints as well as the joint that is between the head and neck. (sort of the ear area.) Do think there's a way to cover this without hindering the figure? Some people really fuss over the details of Boba and Vader, but I seem to get really OCD about the droids lol.

Yes, I painted the bodies originally, but then they just cast it in a plastic that was the same color, hence the toy-like look of it. Painting the body was a several step process that I made up at the time and don't recall. Best bet is to just mix paint until you think it matches and go over the whole thing. This will hide the translucency of the plastic and make it seem more like paint on metal, but make sure to paint back in those paint scratches to "show" the silver underneath. You can use the same paint to cover the pins. Just don't flood the joint with paint and lock it up. Touch the paint where it needs to go only.

Reshaping the eyes. You can try to putty them in and sand it smooth, leaving just the outline like the proto, and then just paint inside the outline. That should create visually smaller look.

Thanks a lot for helping me out, Nathan, I appreciate it.

If I was going to repaint the entire thing from scratch, would I just paint over the figure as is or treat it somehow?

I would prime it with a clear dull cote like Army Painter Matte Varnish. And don't build up the paint too thick cause articulation friction will rub it right off.

Just to show off Nathan's awesome work...

Nathan, I just came across (on facebook) the Cavill sculpt you painted. It looks amazingly real. The skintone is perfect. :clap

Modern Life Studio (an up and coming custom figure maker out of France, Toria Casarro's company) used my pics of this prototype head (after Photoshopping it onto a screencap) to promote their new Man of Steel figure, and then they reneged on paying for the work claiming, "My team and I are not satisfied with the current result of the paint job." So I told them I was going to keep and sell the head myself. If anybody is interested in buying this prototype head pictured below for $200 plus shipping, message me!

What? Well that's a big load of crap...

I don't really follow Toria's work, but her constant self-promotion and tagging known artists for works on Facebook that have nothing to do with the projects have always been off-putting.

But now to not pay for your work and still use it for their marketing is pretty sickening. And I'm pretty sure you were again tagged in the photoshopped image she shared on Facebook .

And fantastic looking paint job btw :Duff
