You know what they say, 'misery loves company'......:lol Though I imagine the only ones who might be miserable are the guys who don't buy when SS sets an ES at 100, it sells out instantly....and then PJ introduces one of these bad boys in The Hobbit. :naughty

:rotfl Waaaaay below the belt Woodsy!!!

But I still think this piece will be a regretted missed opportunity by the LOTR collectors further down the line once the stigma of 'video game character' finally gives way to acceptance that these beasties are very likely to have been around. I'm out of the running for now but would jump on this in a heartbeat, and a low ES would be the frosting on the snow :wink1:

it's only slightly taller than the Gandalf statue.

somebody please convince me that i don't need this statue.

I can't guarantee anything, but I'll give it a try.

1]. It's a species of Mtn. Troll referred to in Tolkien's writings

2]. It's a statue based on the creature designs of Weta

3]. It's a 10/10 on the awesomeness scale

Three goods reasons why you don't need this statue. :lecture :wink1:

Deep Breaths....the pictures are amazing. I am curious to see the price at this point. I want to skip it since it isn't part of the film series, but the design is amazing. I am also concerned that I won't get another shot at a troll down the road. I will probably pre-order, and whine and moan when I do, and be thrilled to own it when it ships. Finding a space for it will be a different story!

Yes Dave, a fact I have already been reminded of.......:lol

That is a great point Dave! :clap I think alot of us either forget, or just weren't around yet, but the Weta creature designs weren't exactly universally accepted 10 years ago when we were first introduced to them. The stigma of movie CGI creatures or designs not based on the earlier works of John Howe and Alan Lee had many people snubbing their noses at some of Weta's designs, yet I think if you to to ask most people today, it is now the Weta designs by which all other's are compared.
In the case of Weta great designs eventually won out, and I believe that will be the case here as well. If future offerings in this line compare favourably with this masterpiece, it is only a matter of time before people toss aside the video game stigma and accept these as amazing pieces of LOTR-related art. My greatest hopes at this point are that this statue does well enough for SS to consider producing others, and that Barrow-Wights are in this game.......

So does this mean I'm not getting my PF Cave Troll? :monkey3

Not at all! I believe someone from SS was overheard saying a 1/4 scale Cave Troll was in the plans and they even gave a timeframe for it's release.....something about when hell freezes over....:monkey3 :lol

So what you're saying is there's still a chance! :yess:

Looks amazing :rock The sculpt is top class.Gonna be hard not to hit the pre-order button :gah:

Barrow Wights are a bit of an enigma as we already have seen spectral soldiers of the dead type characters. The Barrow Downs chapter in the books was very creepy and surreal so I don't have a clue what design could match that :horror

Vampire bats or non-domesticated, intelligent Warg's could all go in the mix and be in this line. Even Ent Wives :lecture

It will be harder for me to pass on this one than to hit the pre-order button, therefore I will be taking the path of least resistance myself. :lecture :lol

I'd definitely go for a more wolf-like/Tolkien-like Warg myself. I know Weta's idea was to do a more wolf-like Warg for the movies, but they were 'outvoted' by PJ on that one. I can really say I've ever liked PJ's vision of the hyena-like Warg myself.....:(

So judging by the previews, Arwen is likely for Q2 next year and this guy to drop in Q3? I still hope we get another video either at SDCC or at Spooktacular that shows some of the sneak peeks at the designs for the line as it develops.

I do like that this was way out of left field and totally unexpected. The sculpt and design is just phenomenal!

I'll likely keep him until the Cave Troll PF shows up (which means I'll keep him indefinitely!)

Between the Boromir pre-order and the peeks of Arwen and the Snow Troll I am pretty happy at how this SDCC is shaping up, but I will be extremely disappointed if we don't see some LOTR sneak peeks in the form of a video [or conceptual artwork pic's at the very least] of future maquette and PF projects. :(

Wow, amazing what comes up when you're gone for a few days. I totally love this thing, the amount of detail looks awesome!:rock It doesn't matter to me if it's from a video game as long as it physically resembles what Peter Jackson gave us (which it does). The only small nit-pick that I have is the dwarf, which looks great but gives a reference point for the scale (I want to display with the maquettes). If the dwarf is 1/6 scale than I guess there's no problem at all. Maybe the dwarf is removeable? Either way I am definitely getting this one!

Any idea when it goes up for pre-order?

The preview notice just says to watch for an upcoming newsletter after SDCC......
