Came out awesome. I like it more than the original Cave Troll, even though it's not as iconic.

I own the SSW Cave Troll and it's a great statue, but I agree in that I too prefer this one. As for the iconic part, to me it's basically the same design as the Weta Cave Troll only with a few extra's thrown in. :dunno I'd actually be surprised if Weta didn't have something to do with this, seeing as the game is being produced by Warner Bros........the same guys who own the movie rights. Even if they didn't have anything to do with it, they certainly were the inspiration behind it.

just curious if that is the final base, as the statues all have the same base design, I would want this to as well - to help the display flow

I believe so. The statue is not part of the maquette line so it will not have the same base as those pieces.

Are you sure it's not part of the maquette line? Granted the scale is slightly different, but the only active LOTR lines right now are the maquettes and PFs. How will they "categorize" it if not as one of the maquettes?

I still have my resolve, and continue to resist this. But that may change when I see this troll in person. Depending on the price of course.

I'm counting on you fury! I can't be there to see it in person, so I am depending on you to do what I can't - find any flaw, imperfection, or (if need be) contrived, made-up reason to help me get my resolve back. I'm staggering under the weight of woodsy's relentless call to the dark side (which is so ironic, because it's usually me who is doing the dark side luring :lol).

Oh, and BTW woodsy... I hate you. You have single-handedly destroyed my resolve. So :pfft: to you!

Hey, you know what they say....."don't shoot the messanger". :lol All of your wrath and malice should be directed at Andy B. for sculpting this masterpiece, though due to the awesomeness of this sculpt I imagine it's gotta be pretty hard being angry with him......:wink1:

I agree that this looks cooler than the original Cave Troll. It just seems more dynamic and all the detailing is amazing, from the skull headdress down to the snow covered base. I can't wait to add this to my collection! Can anyone who's there ask if the dwarf is removeable?
After seeing this awesome statue, it makes me wonder what plans SSC has for the Balrog.

Good point. :lecture SS has said it's only a matter of time before they tackle the Balrog......

The ONLY thing I don't like about this is the BLANDNESS of the Dwarf...looks stiff and has little detail...

Amazing sculpt Andy B. , I have a place all picked out in the office for this one! I missed out on the 1st Troll, and this guy is a must!

Yeah, the dwarf is actually my saving grace with this piece, allowing me to justify not making an order. If he were removable, I might bite...

I might be wrong, but I don't think the dwarf is the focal point here....and you'ld be stiff [with fear] too, if you were just about to be eaten. :wink1:

So no price tag or name plate associated with this one? The photos from comic-con are really great, so thanks to everyone who has been sharing with us here on the board!

Fine! Then you AND Andy BOTH get a big :pfft: from my poor, poor wallet!

:lol

Fantastic looking Troll. Love the sculpt, detailing and pose.

Hate the Gimli in his grasp, though. Brings down the piece, in my opinion. If there was a way of removing Gimli, I would do it. Should have been a "Snow Dwarf" there instead, if you will. Not liking the Gimli sculpt, either. Gives it a toy-ish look.
