The queen was acted beyond perfectly. Those who say otherwise are wrong. Period. (Sorry, I'm in a bad mood right now.) Stewart's performance was fine. Nothing spectacular, but I thought the character was believable, and that's all that matters.

I can understand why people might not like this movie because it borrows a lot from other films. But for some reason I didn't mind that.

The first half of the movie focuses on getting us to hate the Queen, which Theron does perfectly. (I honestly feel this is objectively true. She does not over-act in the slightest).

Regarding the second half: Everything from the dwarves making an appearance, on is just awesome. Love the dwarves, love the fairies, love the Hart, love "Sanctuary", love the storming of the castle, love the final battle with the glass creatures (almost everyone dies), love that we see Snow made Queen, love that the ending isn't about Snow getting hooked up.

Oh, and I loved the Dark Forest. The imagery was spectacular, the effects where terrific. I liked that it wasn't supernatural. I thought a halicinagenic forest was a cool new idea, and very plausible. I think it's perfectly reasonable that a forest that makes you trip that hard could indeed take life and build the kind of reputation it had.

Regarding Stewart, she was by far my least favorite aspect of this film. I hate her face. She's not as attractive as Charlize and the mirror didn't say that ONE DAY she'd be fairest, he said on THIS DAY. No. Just no. Also, I hate her face in the sense she can't act other than that stupid open mouthed look that she uses when she's scared, in awe, surprised, in pain, etc. Move your facial muscles!!! :slap

But everything else? Spot on. I'm buying it on BD for the wife's birthday.

Not gonna lie, I loved this movie.

Parts reminded me of:

Willow
The Hobbit
Time Bandits
Legend
Lion Witch and the Wardrobe
Joan of Ark
Pan's Labyrinth
Princess Bride
The Matrix

This movie is much more awkward and quirky than I was expecting. In a good way. For that reason, I can see this being a cult classic.

I was thinking "Willow," "Labyrinth," and "Princess Bride" as well. It felt like a movie from another era. Haven't seen "Legend" but know it enough to see the connection. Good call on "Narnia" and "Pan's Labyrinth."

This movie was cool. Is the extended edition worth watching? I chose the theatrical cut from the menu.

I don't even want to imagine her and Patterson having sex. :lol

I agree about it feeling like a movie from another era.

I liked the extended edition. If you watch it again, give it a try. There is definitely more character development in it.

Regarding Snow not being pretty enough, I have 2 thoughts:

1) It is meant to imply that inner beauty is more important.
2) The mirror never speaks in reality, and the bit about Snow being more pretty is just a manifestation of the Queen's insecurity.

I actually feel pretty strongly about the second point. There is a scene when the Queen's brother sees the Queen talking to the mirror. From the Queen's perspective there is a gold man that is standing before her, but her brother just sees her there talking to no one. I'm pretty sure the Queen was off her nut and just used the mirror as a way to tell herself what she wanted to hear. When the king's daughter was coming of age, paranoia set in, (and justly so).

So again, I don't mind Stewart being in this film.

Ya that shot made it very clear that was indeed the case, I'd be surprised if people actually thought the mirror was real!:dunno Having the Mirror a manifestation I thought was very clever.

not happy ending. What a pity!!

Why? Because she didn't end up with anyone? I loved that ending :yess:

Good points, Mag. I ordered the BD for my wife's birthday. She loved it too. We will give the extended edition a shot. Good points about inner beauty and all, but I think everyone is fairer than Queen Ravenna inside. Lol. I didn't catch the manifestation bit. Sounds intriguing. I love Queen Ravenna. If they had made Barbies of her, I'd own them :rotfl

I have owned this for a while now but finally just had the nerve to try the Extended Edition. Usually those deleted scenes are deleted for a reason and when they're shoe horned in, they ruin the flow of a movie. That was not the case for this. I had trouble even figuring out which scenes were added. I only noticed two, both of which didn't hurt the pacing of the narrative and added a lot to the rather two dimensional characters.

I still love this movie.
